Appears so, there's been alot of non-instructors begging for something like this, can't blame Les Mills for trying to make a dollar and meet demand.  I've seen the promo video, and there's 7 videos, a bar and looks like either 2 medium and 2 small or 2 large and 2 medium that are in the kit.

Re: Body Pump and Beach Body????

My first reaction is that  since instructors had to sign the instructor agreement to play their music and teach their chore in only LM clubs that this is kind of a slap in the face.  We all worked so hard to earn our cert and to keep current classes of good quality and with the most up to date releases and now they are going to just let anyone who wants to buy it get it?  I realize it won't be the same as what we get ( at least I hope  not) .   But then again, if people are wanting it, someone will fill that void.

But that is my immediate knee jerk reaction.

I will wait to see what happens

Re: Body Pump and Beach Body????

I don't think a DVD could ever come close to the feeling of being in a body pump class - I wouldn't be able to have the music on so loud at home for starters...and it is easy to get fed up of the repetition on a DVD very quickly.

However, I wouldn't mind having this DVD as a fall back so if as is usually the case I don't get to my third Pump class of a week because of timetabling etc. I can do it at home instead and still get a similar workout.

Will be very interested to read more about it and see the clips!

I am wondering if this does go through and people do get the DVD will they actually use it?  I mean it is like those people who get a treadmill and swear they will use it but it turns into a clothes hanger...

Re: Body Pump and Beach Body????

I don't think it will cut into our classes.  People come to Group Fitness classes because they like the motivation they get from a live instructor and the energy from the other participants.

This is REAL? Honestly. I have done nothing but support and be "true blue" to Les Mills since my first training. I'm really disappointed. REALLY. To the point where I wish I hadn't signed up for another program.

    Beachbody is AWFUL.

Re: Body Pump and Beach Body????

Yes I actually am just hearing about this today myself and Im a big fan of Beachbody and of Bodypump so obviously I was excited. I do think that NOTHING beats working out in a group setting and having an instructor in front of the class PUSHING you to your max BUT for those who can't make it to the gym every single day, have to miss a class, traveling, or they don't have a bodypump class near them I think its awesome. I love teaching group fitness and I also love being a student so I will still attend group fitness classes but I like having my workouts at home for those days I can't make it to the gym especially being a Mom of a 3 year old and pregnant with my 2nd one on the way lol. Beachbody doesn't mess around I will say this they are a top notch company with amazing integrity and they always put out the best stuff so Les Mills choose the right way to go about doing this. I wrote a quick blog about what i have heard from a leadership meeting where this info was announced http://www.mindywenderfitness.com/les-mills-body-pump-teaming-up-with-beachbody/ feel free to read it if you want :) Mindy

I agree nothing beats having an instructor in front of class pushing you, the people around you pushing you, and the MUSIC pushing you ... Im a student and group fitness instructor but like you said its a good thing for people to have on their off days at the gym.

Re: Body Pump and Beach Body????

It is a 7 DVD set, specially created for Beachbody, called Pump (Les Mills) it comes with barbell, and weights set. It is similar to what was releases in the 1990's.

It is due for release December 2011.

I agree with you. This goes against the very principles that Les Mills stands for; in fact, one of our recent ed sessions (BP 78, "Global Trends") talks about the importance of EXERCISE IN GROUPS, MUSIC, and INSTRUCTOR as the key to LM programs. By doing at home DVDs LMI is eliminating two out of those three factors.

The safety issues related to this are astonishing ... imagine hordes of people doing a C&P without proper instruction ... or a lunge with their heel on the floor ... or a chest press with their lower back arched ...

I also agree that this is a monumental slap in the face to all instructors. Not only are we apparently not vital to the Les Mills experiences, but we had to sign contracts saying we would not use our materials in non-LM clubs, or show materials to non-instuctors, lest we face a major fine. Apparently it is okay, however, for newbies to go home and teach themselves Bodypump using the materials we weren't to show them.

This smacks of a cash grab, and is very unbecoming of LMI. The entire organisation should be ashamed of themselves.

Why not merge with Zumba and REALLY make some money. My god ...

Re: Body Pump and Beach Body????

I have just looked at the unbelieveably cheesey youtube video in question and I am astonished!

I can't blame Les Mills for wanting to make a quick buck but this is ridiculous. I saw people performing clean and presses so they will be doing this themselves in their own home? And when they dunk the bars on top of their heads and lying face down on their living room floors the dvd will be continuing onto the triceps?

I am hoping... REALLY hoping this doesn't get here to the UK. I feel so much anger right now! Les Mills be careful or prepare of a mass exodus from your instructors!
