    Re: Size of instructors

I am agree with everything said on here, bc in my opinion its all true.  The way you look does not mean you cannot deliver a good class with passion.

BUT,  lets not forget that this IS  a fitness class.  and having that stereotypical body IS generally a bi product of being really fit.  Can someone who is 20lbs overweight deliver  a great class?  yes.  Could they deliver an even better class if they didnt have that weight?  Yes.  you may think that you give max intensity, but be honest, do you have the same intensity AND personality at the end of the class as you did in the beginning.  I teach with intensity foremost, but when I get winded the personality goes out the window(as i cant breath).  I admit the potential for me to deliver an exceptional class is higher when I am in greater shape.  The potential.

i just wonder if some instructors hit a plateau in thier fitness levels, and instead of trying to break down that wall, they fall back on the fact that people are all different sizes.  again I agree with this, but never use it has a scapegoat or a reason to become complacent.   Remember "get fit, stay fit, GET FITTER!!!!!"  That last part is for us instructors.

     keep pushing!

If your class members can see you getting results and progressing to your goal, then they know with hard work and drive they can too!!!

    Re: Size of instructors

you are an inspiration nic.  I'm 6'1, 175lbs, tall, and lanky, i have to make my moves bigger and sharper.  All of my fellow attack instructors are below 5'7 ..... and women :-) so i'm the odd man out ....
...do or do not, there is no try

    Re: Size of instructors

i feel honored to throw my two cents worth in after my two attack brothas ..attacka..and cesran....hugz my friends..

I am 5'11" and hover around 168lbs.  I have been as high as 185 back in my competitive fencing days and when I was much younger of course. I have always been a runner ..and so have had muscular legs from the fencing and running.  Yet, even now..at 45 years of age, I can say that I have transitioned through about 3 levels of fitness in my training and teaching of attack.  What gases and fatigues even the 20-30 year olds in class does not affect me as it did when I was at their stage of attack. That feeling of transition to another fitness zone sorta sneeks up on ya  as during a class you may realize to yourself and say "Hey this is much much easier than it used to be". I have trimmed down from a 34 size jean/pants waist to a 31...which is a big deal at my age as I have not seen that size territory since high school days.  I have found that my limit in weight for my body is 175.....absolutely...I can NOT go over that threshhold and teach an effective attack class at the high level that the instructor needs to be at. So now I hover in the 165-168 range which affords me great comfort in pushing intensity and maintaining it throughout the class. I have to wear a belt now even with jeans or they will slide right off!....I can eat like I did when I was a freshman in college...you know...eat anything and everything and not gain a pound..LOL..whereas as you know when you get over 30 and especially 40 you really have to watch your caloric intake lest ye blossom into a plump coach potato LOL. ...but no more of that!  Attack has taken me beyond my fitness levels that I had achieved even as a young pup in high school and college. Yeah some days I feel like a train has run over me from teaching twice or for many consecutive days...but hey....when I have a few days of recovery ...watch out!  kia kaha y'all!
