    Re: BODYPUMP 71 Sizzler

Yes there is rationale for using the bench in the abs and no it can't be an option.

You need to hold onto the bench behind your head and do a reverse curl, (knees to chest) you can't do this on the floor, for this to be effective you need to lift the butt off the step and roll back onto your UPPER back

    BillyG:
My club is still 2 months out from receiving 71.  I've read the chest track is challenging.  What makes it so?  Are there a lot of bottom halfs or is the track longer than normal.  What I find the most challenging is when the break comes 2/3 through rather than 4/5 as in 70 and some of the late 60's.  Today's instructor did one of the older tracks where the post break workout was 1/3 or more of the total track and fortunately I popped 6 kg from each side during the break else I'd have been dying at the end.  Some days I have it but this wouldn't have been one of them had I tried to push it.

Yeah, there are lots of push ups and also very challenging bottom halves

The track is also very long; I did it yesterday for the 2nd time

    Re: BODYPUMP 71 Sizzler

Susan R called this release "meat and potatos" and i have to agree. Even though it is challenging it is basic and it has allowed me to increase my weights. Where previous tracks that i do, my weight may have been slightly on the easy side, i still got some burn at the end. this release i found that i felt great afterwards, so last night i increased my weights - wow it was great, so it looks like i have my increase under my belt!!!

This is a fantastic release -it works well

    Re: BODYPUMP 71 Sizzler

We'll have to agree to disagree on the "basic" bit. OK, the first 6 tracks are "meat and potatoes". However, I don't see anything "meat and potatoes" in a lunge track that introduces an innovation, or a shoulder track that is a mishmash of unconventional transitions, or an ab track that introduces 2 innovations. Each to their own though.

    "meat and potatoes".

Perhaps Susan's version is devilled quail fillets and dauphinois Jersey Royals.

I just got my release last night.  Can't say I'm loving the music.  Reading through the choreography it looks pretty uninspiring (11-2x presses in the triceps track for instance).  Hopefully this one will grow on me.

    Hi,

I don't want to criticize the music but I don't like it also.

The music in BP 70 is better..

    Just my 2 cents.

    Re: BODYPUMP 71 Sizzler

Bodypump 71 is a great release. Highlights to me are tracks 1,2,4,5,7,8 and 9. Circus by Britney is so cool and track 7 is amazing, track 4 by Liz Kay what more can one ask for and the squats are nasty, and track 1 is an uplifting track and Operation Blade is up there with the original in the 40's series of Bodypump.

This release reminds me of the 40's series of Bodypump, and has lots to entertain all :)

    Just my 2 cents.

Coming soon a new concept no one has ever done before and it has been in the planning for the past 4 years.

We launched last night here in Sydney so here's some thoughts.

On paper this release didn't look so inspiring (as per above post) but in practice it's pretty good. Despite being shorter in total time than other releases it's a bloody good workout.

Warm up, squats and back are pretty typical - nothing very new but a good feel to them.

Watch out for chest! Pay attention to what Glen says on the DVD: "Not a time to go heavier!" hard hard hard.

Triceps you need to go super heavy to feel it, I added a couple of kgs to what I normally do and really liked it, again a different feel (and a bloody nightmare to learn along with Biceps...)

Lunges and shoulders are very hard as well. I know shoulders are a remake or another song, but they've done it well this time and I don't have the older version anyway! The workout is simple but hard.

Abs nice return to the reverse curl and good variation on the plank hold.

One thing I've noticed about this release is there's not a single song that I would never use again! None of them are AMAZING, but just good simple songs so I think in all it's a winner in my book..

    ENJOY!

    Re: BODYPUMP 71 Sizzler

Question for the geeky types: how are you managing all the gear in the shoulder track? I'm looking for efficiency and safety solutions that work through all the transitions. What I'm talking about is the positioning of the bar vs bench vs mat (hello Auckland, we don't all have carpet!) vs plates ..... vs all the other crap lying around (towel, drink bottle, other plates, risers left over from the lunge track if they haven't been put away).

To consider in your suggestions:  1. Participants stand BEHIND their benches at our gyms. 2. They can't stand on their mats because they're not safe, yet we need to go from standing to kneeling in the same spot. 3. Limited floor (and stage!) space. 4. Gym rules ban packing away of weights between tracks.

The only solution so far has to be pack away the risers before the lunge track. But that doesn't do much to ease the 'crap everywhere' problem in the shoulder track when there are so many transitions and different bits of gear needed in different places. And then you get the time wasters who lose a reps because they're busy laying their towel on their mat or trying to catch their bar rolling away or repositioning because they're in someone's way. For those doing pushups off their bench, their bar might be in the way and their mat in the wrong orientation.

Can anyone paint us a mental picture or draw a diagram if you're in the same (cramped) situation and have worked this through?

    Re: BODYPUMP 71 Sizzler

Great to hear you enjoyed it Ryan......my sentiments were just the same - nothing that won't be used again.  Nothing mindblowing just good songs with a hard work out!!!!  I agree on the triceps - weighs can go up with all those bottom half presses!!!

Speedie - thankfully I don't have that problem - hooray for carpet!!!!!  Plus classes are not so huge that equipment is a problem (sometimes it would be nice though!).  Can they stack weights under the bench and do their push ups parallel to the bench?  Its hard in the shoulder track when you need all your toys out Big Smile

In my 2 previous classes, I put the same weight as the 70#, as this track is harder than the 70#,  Then, i will put less on the weight for this track.

Situation is the same as above at my gym. Since I'm not an instructor I won't know this release until first class with BP 71, in October. It's going to be interesting to see how we will manage...
