Knee pain and leap lunges. Help needed.

    Hi guys,

Need some advice. I've been teaching Attack since 48 and recently leap forward lunges are causing me some major pain in my right knee. The pain happens when I land the lunge and only is in the knee. Side of the knee to be precise and heads up the leg. Its incredibly sharp (and at times have nearly sworn out loud) and then stops the moment I do any other move.

Plyo's, jax, tucks are all fine causing no discomfort at all - its just the leap forward lunges.

I am seeing my physio on Tues but am releasing 60 sat morn and track 4 has leap lunges (obviously I'll show them and then go to a step knee option for myself). Any ideas what it can be? i have incredibly tight ITB at the moment and wondered if that is pulling on my knee - but am stumped as what it is and how to stop it.

     Need Attackers advice please

    Hi there,

I'm not an attacker, but I hurted my knee really badly during a BA class something more that a year ago.  I was out for several months, the mainraison because I didn't stop on time.  So the only and best advice I can give you is to NOT do any lunges (or anything else) until you see your physio (a sport physio?).

On paper, reading the pain you have, is not sufficient to have an idea what you have.. I went to see 5 doctors, they all said something different and they had even my knee in front of their eyes!  Wink

Good luck and remember that a lof of knee things can be healed - I'm a good example of it Big Smile

I went to Physio and he thinks its a meniscul tear. I'm devastated coz it means I'm out of Attack action for 4-6 weeks depending on results of scan.

ugh! i had my left knee meniscus re shaped years ago.. and now i can do lunges and squats but i cant go too deep cause i can feel the knee going POP... it doesnt hurt,, but you know its there and it will remind you of taking it easy every single lunge or squat..

I just got certified on BA 60 and guess what track i was assigned.... yup track 4 thank you very much!!!!!!!! I used my knee brace and ice packed my knees all night long just to play it safe!!

Good luck, hope you get to recover soon! and let us know how it goes!!

hmmm...watch yourself in the mirror in the studio or better film yourself doing the lunge leap...prolly there is excessive torsion being put on that knee from an exaggerated lunge angle eh?could it be an ACL strain from the sound of the precise pain position?if you are right dominated , you may be pulling harder on that leg when you jump back from the leap because its your dominant side?   I know I am left dominant and tend to consciously and subconsciously really place greater strains on my left side of the body since it is more, in my mind ,confortable to do that.
