There use to be so many complaints about how complex/difficult Combat has become and now we have people complaining it's getting easy. Confused

Amen!  Seriously can't believe these two programs are in the same forum discussion.....T/K is garbage.

    Aw, come on.

I'm sure you can simulate the TurboKick experience at home.

Just put on one of your Combat CD's.

Pour a jar of fire ants down your pants.

    Voila - TurboKick Big Smile

And if you don't believe me, go on to Youtube and put in 'turbo kick monica' in the search and see for yourself Surprise

    Hi bwhiskey,

Um....I gotta reply to that stupid cheerleader comment...

(This is just my opinion, not trying to attack you personally here...ok?) Turbo kickboxing was written and created  by a former cheerleader and dancer who was also a martial arts student (Chalene Johnson). I also took Turbo for 3 years and now teach Body Combat and I totally disagree with you. When I came back from my BC training I went to a Turbo workshop...for the hell of it...and I felt like going to cheer at a friggin' football game. "Yay, come on y'all, let's g - o- go!" So give me a break. I have never seen a man in Turbo either.. And I sure can't imagine Dan Cohen (or Rach for that matter) doing a Turbo round. HA! They are way too cool for that...

Sorry but I disagree here. And it's just my opinion, just like you have yours, and that's ok, it's why they make chocolate and vanilla, and Turbo and Body Combat. Choose your pleasure, but I'm a converted junkie

    BODY COMBAT KICKS ASS!

    >>>OH YES, and I was saying that about C Johnson  not because being a dancer makes her not worthy of Combat and that's why she does Turbo...but because of the cheerleader comment, and I was pointing out that she indeed used to be a cheerleader so why that comment about Body Combat? Because we know that Rach was a professional dancer and no doubt better at the trade I'm sure!!

    OMG...

OK ONE MORE POST AND I PROMISE I'M DONE....

I saw someone's suggestion about Youtube's "Turbo Kick Monica" and I just had to check it out: my 6 year old stated it perfectly...

"That is the craziest workout ever!"  OMG, did you even SEEE  her jabs and punches? Ok, yep, that's about it...I took it long enough to recognize it...lol, don't even know why these are discussed in the same forum. (ok ok, I have to admit, when you wanna get your groove on, it IS fun to be fair to a couple of people who have posted on here that are TBK instructors also, but this is NOT a kickboxing workout).  Ok ok, done, promise!! Oh yeah, not yet, the training for Combat was 3 days, 9 hours each day, the turbo training is 8 hours one day and one of the kickboxing instructors at my FORMER gym still does her hooks and uppers like bicep curls instead of punches....

Ok, NOW I promise, I'm done and will shut up now....

Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

hehe, that combo thing sounds really cool !! :D...

oh hehe im one of those clumsy people who are at the front lacking natural rhythym, and i think i own my little space and i dont know about getting better .. i do try.. lols im usally at the front because its more roomy, its hard to follow the flow "for me" and i dont like being close to strangers .. makes me uncomfertable :D hence i got my own spot at the front lols..

i think the reason i lack natural rhythym because some moves i like to execute slower, because it feels better.. then i catch up by executing the other moves faster.. usally i like punches to be fast and uppercuts to be slow.. a fast uppercut feels weird for me so i speed up my jabs to give time for my uppers :D

oh i love most of the BC music.. as long as a release has 2+ tracks that are good i usally enjoy it :D...

anyways i gotta go bye bye !!

Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

I quite foolishly got a cert in turbo.  I did the "home study" where I just had to tape myself for an entire 32 count, demonstrate the kicks and punches and take a multiple choice quiz.  Oooo, grueling.  My club gfm was a big turbo fan and since there isn't a club licensing fee for turbo, that's what they went with.  I had only intended to sub in classes here and there, but ended up with my own time slot...and I hated it.  I mean, seriously wanted to cry hot hot tears of despair every morning I knew I'd have to teach Turbo.  And this was after completely throwing away their choreography and making up my own.  I couldn't abide the hip hoppy punches.  The "essence" of Turbokick is so completely different from Combat and I couldn't get past the lack of aggression and the feeling of cheery perky sunshine-smiles while punching in random directions.

Part of why I hated teaching it was the amount of work it took to make up the choreography.  Oh, and there was only one other person with a cert in turbo who was teaching and they couldn't sub for me...and the other FIVE people with certs weren't willing.  Yeah, Turbo is sooooo fab that people who paid for the training and passed couldn't be bothered to ever teach it.  The other regular instructor?  She threw out the pre-choreo too.  I tossed it because it was too difficult for the members to follow.  Even the "seasoned" members looked like they were flailing aimlessly which is ineffective and dangerous.  Too many layers, too many moves and often too many moves to music that was too fast for the moves in question.

I suppose that had I not been exposed to Les Mills and been through a few of their trainings I probably would have been more favorably inclined towards Turbo.  I'm just used to a quality product that I can learn from front to back and know that it's safe and effective for the class members and that with the proper coaching from me, they can succeed in achieving great form which leads to a great workout.

Oh, and speaking of quality products?  The "rounds" are more expensive (about 25% more expensive) and sometimes are reaaaaaaally bad quality.  I received one round that demo'd the masterclass using the wrong music throughout.  Yeah, the entire 60 minute "masterclass" had the same 15 minutes of music repeating the ENTIRE time.  Considering that round cost me over $50.00, I was not pleased.  Some of the DVD's had no masterclass whatsoever, just the breakdown of each segment which was frustrating.  I have no idea if the rounds got better, since after my first few I stopped buying them...and when my gfm gave me a bunch, I just used the music and never bothered looking at the notes or the dvd's.

Final analysis?  Combat kicks Turbo's butt.  Mercilessly.  Like, KO'd it. It's down on the mat and Combat is stomping it's pretty little blonde head over and over and OVER.
