Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

Hey jammers. I tried writing this yesterday but the website didn't seem to work. Anyways... We had the launch of BJ 44, my oh my, what a class. It was packed so I had to "agressively" hold on to my place. Didn't think I'd get much of a workout (full house, first class, not knowing the moves, etc.) so I did a BP class before that.

Well, first of, when I realized this release would have a hip-hop part in it, I was thrilled. I like r'nb and hip-hop, in general, and jamming to something like that seemed like a  good idea. And then I saw the choreo... I LOVED it. I mean, it's not too complicated, not too easy, it is certainly very danceable with an "attitude". I like that my two instructors always embrace a certain attitude for a certain type of music (or a block within a choreo), and if hip-hop doesn't let you have an attitude, I don't know what does... So, it was tons of fun for me.

And I think the Beyonce bridge was taken down "the right" notch, so to speak... It is just right for a class. I mean, obviously, "dropping down on our knees" to shake it like an alley cat is a bit.... too much for a class (not for me, but hey... :-))

The second half... well, ok, I understand the comments that I had read before. Yes, it is fairly simple the choreo, but I think people can have fun with it. Wow, everyone went crazy when they heard Let's Dance (moi included). Both instructors emphasised the steps so that it doesn't turn out a "run in place".... It got very slippery towards the end so I had to be careful... Anyways, yes, doing that for three months might be too much, but the block itself is quite fun. And it's not that long, or.... that's the impression I got.

Well, personally, I enjoyed it immensly. ...

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

Thank you, Laura!!! I couldn't agree more. What we all have to remember is that there are several people out there who have wanted to try BJ but feel scared when they peek in the studio and we're flying with barrel turns and fancy footwork! That doesn't mean we shouldn't GO FOR IT on the harder releases but we should just APPREICATE the fact that G is thinking outside the "advance jammer" box and trying to reach ALL TYPES OF PEOPLE! Isn't that what LM is all about? I am also looking forward to BJ 45 and the incredible butterfly we've all heard so much about. So...let's use 44 as a release to get new members in, let regulars shine, advance our own scripting and BREAKOUT techniques, and prepare everyone for 45!

    TURN IT UP!

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

We just launched 44 this weekend.  The initial feedback is very encouraging....many people really seemed to like it.  The Conga is a pleaser===interesting, challenging enough, yet easy to just relax into.

Hip Hop Block===people looked so good doing it!  And seeing the expressions on their faces that they were getting it was worth the price of admission.  Success in getting the moves down allowed them to really do them better and finally do them really well.  Having the block build, with the Beyonce interlude, allowed people to work on the move, then the feel.  And when I kept calling out to get lower on the Sling Shot, they did....and got the cardio workout the block is designed for.

Recovery===seems simple.  But always tell participants recovery is about being smooth, relaxing, and just flowing with the music.  Simple=good in many ways.

House Cardio Block===I was surprised how many came up and told me they liked it, thought it was challenging and would keep their interest.  Especially after reading many comments on here I thought it might not seem interesting to participants.  But, again, it seems to have struck the balance between moves and intensity.

Groove Down===Complicated groove down.  But nice long stretching this time, so a good balance.

Overall....better response than I had expected.  We'll see if it holds up.  But we only do a 2 week launch, so we'll be mixing back releases in after that, so this one should hold up.

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

OO .. when i spoked to my member today, she told me... jam 44 second block is like Body Attack.. and I remembered your posting. She said, we are too old to do all these, but we like to dance. Can you bring out something less strenous for us to dance to...like the older releases?  She has a point to it. The later releases of bodyjam is getting tougher and cardio (intensive). Some of my members shunned from block 2, they told me they have ankle, knee problem and they dont feel like doing the release. Even after, I told them to take it easy, soft knees, dont over lean.. etc.. they said they cant take the stress.. for doing it too often.

I cannot imagine whats the next release is going to be. If it goes on like this..so strenuous... many of the members will end up in Line dancing classes..which is currently gaining so much popularity in comparison.

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

That's too bad... Hmm, you know the appeal of Jam to me is that it doesn't water down the dance aspect, like so many other fitness dance classes. And I got to try a few of the tracks from much older releases ( 19 and up) and those were crazy!!! What G has going on is way more structured and in that sense, easy. I'd hate to teach something easier, myself.

It's tough, but like you, I keep showing the easier moves for the peeps who can't do them and then go full-out.  They are still getting a work-out. Sometimes they just need to be convinced that the challenge is part of the workout. I think my older members like feeling like they are a part of the crazy intensity even if they aren't doing it full-out.

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

I really dont know... how the older releases are like. I did get to try jam 34,35. There were more dance moves... (counted the bars ..hehe), members still loved it.

Yes.. showed them the easier moves, and they said, the moves are easy, but when the music is on,  its just too fast for them to catch up. Need to keep cueing, precue, maybe preview. This does not come from only the peeps but the younger new members .... they might not posses the stamina...

of course we do full out when there is a break out, yet some of them, they cant cope at the base level. Said its too fast to follow...but strange enough newbies can cope with Jam 41!!! Its the same house tap with just a small variation. They cant cope with single single double, and house lean.

Anyways, despite all their feedback, still managed to get them to break out and enjoyed the 2nd block. They (new and regulars both) applauded on the 3rd week.  Mission accomplished. Phew...

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

So after all of this mixed bag of reviews on 44, I have to admit that I was wicked nervous to launch, as I wanted the members to love this release....and they absolutley DUG it!!  Most said that they liked it because the moves were familiar but still new and they felt so successful and were sweating like mad!!  When Stronger and the David Bowe remix came on they went crazy....it was so amazing....

I enjoyed this release from the moment I cracked the case, but what matters most is how the members like it, so the negative press sort of got to my head....my original post on the topic was very positive and after launching it, I feel exactly the same!!!  44ROCKS!!!

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

My local gym finally released Body Jam 44 on Saturday. It was a good warmup, and I really loved the muscle conditioning track. Then we did the hip hop segment, and I really didn't like it. Ickphth! I just don't like hip hop music. I got bored really fast there. The recovery was okay. The house section was very nice ( I knew it was only a matter of time before they used that "Green Light" song ). The release wasn't as good as the last three, though, but it wasn't the worst either.

Oh, yeah! And I've said this many times before: It could have been better if they used Flashdance. I don't care how obsessive that sounds. I just really wanna see the song again.

LOL although I think your expression is a little harsh mrrocket, and although I do enjoy Flashdance a lot myself, I have to agree with you to a certain point. Flashdance in my opinion was enjoyable, but bringing it out again would just be overkill. Let it remain in jam 35 where people can do it again if they wish to. Seriously tho I wouldnt mind new choreography of the same feel as Flashdance and even block 2 from Jam 34. I count them among my favourites.

    Lord love ya, MrRocket Drinks

I've been practising for the launch on a volunteer student/co-worker. He really hated the whole release at first, but likes it a lot better now. We both agreed that there is no getting past the fact that the "clap combo" really takes you out of that house dance ecstasy zone in the last track, but oh well.

And LMIJunkie, trust me, I go full out, and the clap combo is basically "dance-us interruptus" mid-way through  the Black Box song! Arrgh.

I am looking forward to the launch... my Jam partner and I have worked out some great bits throughout the whole release.

I don't know if you have done it all out with teaching and all, but I really enjoy the clap combo as a place to catch my breath...i view it as part of the dance and have really enjoyed it....i hope it all goes well :)

Re: Body Jam 44: What are your thoughts?

haha shim love ya 2 girl : )

I like the clap combo as it gives a great opportunity to build for the explosion. I do find it worth holding off the whole combo for as long as you can to maximise the effect as at at 32counts its short and can b very repetative if started too early. Let it build and make your participants beg for the whole combo which then explodes when the base comes in : )

    happy:)
