Maybe BP is just not for you...
Um, other LM classes aren't about weight training at all, just cardio, there is no alternative to BP. But yeah I've tried BA, BC, BS, BF, I would like to try RPM but it's not offered locally. I enjoy most of the LM classes but find the lack of ?variety? to be a big turn off. For instance in BS, I enjoy the fact that the music goes faster than any normal Step class and the fact the moves are varied, but well the music doesn't go fast enough IMO, and there are not any advanced options other than raising the bench, which gets to be dangerous, especially when your 6'7" and I have to position myself between light fixtures or else I would hit them during the jumping tracks, I hit the ceiling tiles on occasion. Then BA seems to be low intensity and slow, heck the music in BS is faster than in BA even though BA doesn't have anything to step on, it should be faster. BC is fun and has the best music, but again nothing very fast, I like BS the best of the three cardio classes. BF I hated since the instructors find it hard to keep the beat (or maybe they don't try), plus I'm not into meditation / stretching, although my PT says I need to become more flexible to avoid injury as well, so far I'm just doing pilates following a Wii game (Daisy Fuentes Pilates). My true passion is StepMania (Dance Dance Revolution Simulator) because I can increase the intensity to suit me and there are no speed limits, I love the occasional very high speed runs they are such an endorphine releaser, and my choice of music, getting a grade at the end (something to improve on), this is the primary reason why I don't go to other LM classes, I have a better funner workout waiting for me at home for cardio. I do BP because of the weight training.
And in case you don't know, BA speed song = 160-165 BPM, BC speed song = 180-185 BPM, BS speed song = 200-205 BPM, and yes I really do live for those speed drills, I wish the instructor would speed them up 150% and repeat them, but then all the old people and fat people would complain, this is the flaw of group fitness, it's not based on individual fitness.
mrtimothy: thefitnessguy: Point 1- your instructor is wrong. Saying that if you can "lift the bar horizontally in front of you, then the bar is too light" smacks of an instructor who has little to no training outside the BP training module. That point was neither raised nor addressed in my training and is nowhere to be found in the manual. Your dumbass instructor is a fool. You can tell it I said so. Fitness guy.... i think he was talking about back track right? I have heard a BP DVD presenter at a quarterly say that if you can reverse curl your back weights then it is not heavy enough. That LM international trainer is wrong too?

A front raise is not a reverse curl... but the reverse curl test is not part of the Pump training either. We take our weight guidelines from the warmup and preceding tracks.
But it does seem likely to me that trying to lift 60lb in a front raise could pull a muscle in the back... what a stupid thing to suggest!

Have you tried freestyle classes then with advice of your PT?
tiger75:Have you tried freestyle classes then with advice of your PT?
The freestyle weightlifting class is nearly identical to BP, I group them together, I go to either one. The water classes were freestyle but I only went since it was better than nothing and actually helped relieve some pain, but now I'm good enough to do normal freestyle, my PT said I could do any of them as long as quick bending is not involved. But my lack of enthusiasm for LM cardio classes is greatly multiplied for freestyle classes, they don't follow the music well, they are slower and WAY more repetitive. She said I'm fine to play StepMania though, so I get plenty of cardio aerobics anyways.
Check out some of my videos if you can't comprehend (check the link in my signature, then select to see my "More From HellRazoR35" on youtube, you could watch "Kiranger" or "V^3" to get an idea.
Ok, I think maybe you should try to solve your back pain first.
How about swimming even if it's not weight lifting that you seem to like so much?
My viewpoint.
tiger75: How about swimming
How about swimming
Swimming is a useful exercise for injury recovery due to the support provided by the water, hence it's "low-impact" nature, but doesn't exclude the potential for excessive 3-axis torsion so would have to be done carefully.
But better still would be finding ways to safely strengthen core muscles. I know "core strength/stability" has become almost a cliché of late, but it should not be glibly dismissed. The spinal column per se is not that intrinsically strong, hence the numerous support muscles throughout it's length.
Some disciplines like yoga and pilates include exercises to condition the deep para-spinal muscles while still maintaining normal alignment, and would be worth HR discussing with his PT. Especially if he wants to return to BP some day.
Yeah, and PT can suggest you doing lumbar exercises for you back problem
Do you take care of your back position while palying video games as you seem to be a gamer...??
tiger75:Yeah, and PT can suggest you doing lumbar exercises for you back problemDo you take care of your back position while palying video games as you seem to be a gamer...??
Yeah I don't hold on to the bar anymore to keep my back in good alignment as I game (you do understand I'm an exergamer, no sitting is involved).
Alright I went to BP for the first time in a long time. One of the songs was that oral sex song during chest presses. I left the room and used a machine for back, I only had weights on the bar during Bicep, Tricep, Chest, I did not have weights for abs nor did I hover off the bench (I'm not sure I should hover anyways, need to ask my PT). So with the modifications I made, I don't think I injured myself further, nothing hurts more now. Oh and I went to BS before BP to get a warmup. I think I'll keep going to BP and follow the same routine for a few more weeks to see what happens.
HellRazor,
Good to know that everything is going right
HellRazoR: One of the songs was that oral sex song during chest presses.
If you watch the video and read the lyrics, it's about pole-dancing not that.

First a male voice clearly singing to a female
"You spin my head right round, right round when you go down, when you go down down"
Then a female voice singing to a male
Not about oral sex? Explain.

You spin my head right round, right round When you go down, when you go down down (Kesha) You spin my head right round, right round When you go down, when you go down down
