    Re: Shoes For BodyAttack

Right from my start from BA 49 I had Adidas, Adistar something.. (Running shoes), never had any problems with them. It were great shoes!!  I had saucony for a month, but I really didn't like them, I got pain in my anckels so I bought a new pair of the adistar collection, and again I really loved it, the first time i felt like I was flying through the attack class!

    PaulaLM:

Just a question:  What shoes do you wear for BodyAttack?

I thought I'd throw this out there to the masses after reading about stress fractures and shin splints.

I wear Nike Airmax which are bulky but have excellent cushioning and lateral stability.  I find the bulk does not bother me for BA, but does for BS, for which I wear Shox.  But more important than which shoes by far, I find using properly designed orthotic insoles which correct my footstrike (perfect in very few individuals - just watch people walk, from behind, and you will see the grinding which must take place in hips and spine).  At 52, teaching aerobics for over 2 decades and still teaching 3x BS and 2x BA per week for 6 years with NO PROBS, I would recommend anyone to be tested, and experiment with, orthotics.  Experiment, because it can take time to get right, but worth it. 12 years ago I gave up high impact due to neck and low back pain; after reading about and trying orthotics I am teaching more intense classes than ever before and have thrown out the glucosamine I used to rely on!  Much cheaper and more effective than chiropractic, massage etc, which only temporarily mask the problem.

Re shin splints etc, a well-respected presenter told me years ago that those with a smaller calf muscle require more stretching to remain injury-free than those blessed with the more bulbous gastrocnemius (eg our prog director).

I was wondering if anyone has tried Vibram Five Fingers for attack?

I understand that there is a transition period required for changing to this type of shoe but I find during the split the room track, my feet push out sideways and eventual distort my shoes (asic gel 140tr) even though they are a good fit.

    Re: Shoes For BodyAttack

Before last week I used some very good Adidas Running Shoes (A3) for Attack but I felt that when moving sideways and making all those Attack moves that they weren't the best choice (I only do Attack for about a month and half). I guess I can confirm some of the previous posts about Running Shoes not being the best choice for BA.

I just bought me some Adidas Megabounce Shoes and what a difference a new Shoe can make! The Shoe has a much better cushioning, it's more stable and it really supports me. Also while I didn't have pain before I think recovery time after BA is shorter than with my old shoes (but maybe that's only my imagination).

So I can only recommend Adidas Bounce (with full bounce sole)... of course that's only my opinion. Yes

I'm also curious about the Vibram 5 fingers, they look freaky but I have some runner friends who swear by them. I use Brooks Adrenaline for Attack at the moment. Tried Saucony but they didn't work me. Top of the range New Balance are also good, but often a bit heavy.

    Re: Shoes For BodyAttack

Does anyone do Attack in any of the Adidas Supernova range? I'm not having much luck with my Brooks trainers in Attack lately and I think I need to change before I injure myself. I use Nike Free's in Combat and they are awesome,  but I'm worried that the higher impact Attack and Nike Free's are just not a good combination.

    minxymia:
I've tried every thing from cross trainers to running shoes, and have been told tennis shoes are the best. I would love to know a good brand of shoe to buy as shin splint hell is nasty.

I've heard only good things about PUMA shoe-less running shoes.  I would love to try shoes like Puma L.I.F.T. or Puma SpeedCat.  They are supposed to prevent shin splints, but they don't even come close to a Size 16 US Mens, so I'll never know...
