mrrocket: you gotta understand that a small few instructors once nearly put a stop to the jump kick around bc19 as it was 'too slow', 'too complex', 'too martialarty' for the average participant.

Gosh - is that right? Hadn't realised that Stu!! I imagine there would be lots of complaints if the jump kick did one!

"I'm pleased i asked what you all thought of BC32, it's good to get all opinions.
loquillaM , I think your third point hit the nail on the head for me.
I've always seen BC as a really good Cardio workout, rather than a martial arts workout. The fact that there are now more slower tracks that require less excertion kills it for me.
For me it all started going wrong with 'Hung Up" back on BC 28, I just thought, 'what on earth were they thinking'?"
Well, Mark, see now... it is making more sense, isn't it?
:-)))) Interestingly enough, I LOVED Hung Up and the whole leg work out.
:-)
anyways, this has been an interesting thread.
smiles,
Maria
Well said lucylui! I certainly do not want to teach Tai Bo.....
I had forgotten that G&N had taken that out in 20 but I do remember the "Rocky" drive Rach brought with the jump kick in 21! It's almost hard to believe that people wanted to take that out????
Kia Ora Everybody...
So amazing to see you all spending time discussing inteligently, your feelings. As you can all see from reading each others comments here, the world of opinions is huge.
I could easily get swept into a huge debate on here, but I prefer to leave discussion to you all, for a number of reasons, that some of you may have already considered and I appreciate your respect on that matter.
What I see as a commen theme here is 'passion'.
It is coming from so many different places, countries, head spaces and you are all teaching the same program (hopefully)
Those of you instructors out there, thanks for your continued support and energy. For attending the qw updates we work so hard on to help educate everybody each 3 months to keep you all up to speed. For taking your work seriously, but not yourselves so seriously.
For our class members, wow...without feet on the floor we would be talking to ourselves (and thats not a good look I hear) :-)
Luckily most of us live in a free world, free to try, fly and buy things that we want.
I hope this kind of freedom is something that we don't take for granted, and share it with others, allowing them to make their own decisions in life.
Some people, I hear, are not that fortunate.
Spare a thought for those who have never tasted chocolate, or beer, good red wine or fresh bread, for those who have never watched a Bond movie, Star Wars or The Matrix.....because some won't let them..
or even worse...
somone told them they would not like it :-(
Nothing comes from nothing..
Everything can come from something..
'Something' is us....and 'Everything' is out there for the taking..
If you want to be everything to everbody...you got to do Something first..
Arohanui to you all..
Rach
Erm yea...err cheers Rach lol
Its a valid point though as each release cannot be all things to all people. With so many different countries, lifestyles and instructor/participant expectations I really don't envy those who have the task of producing consistant releases.
Well it's been two weeks since we launched BC32 and the only track which hasn't been well received is T5. Not sure why yet (although I think McFly may have something to do with it lol) but we'll be continuing with it to see if things change.
With regards to the ESK the last release caused several problems with timing as many participants just couldn't get the track to flow properly. However the new T4 really nails it in my humble opinion. The track flows well with lots of scope for increased lateral movement for those who want to push harder. One interesting comment from the class (which may or may not be of interest) was that although they like the kata, they'd prefer a smoother flowing movement more in line with tai chi.
Other than that its a big thumbs up from the north east of england

You been on them Caipirinha's again!!!!!
Well i launched this morning and it went down they love all of it they really enjoyed T5 but they were probably more amused wiv my singing and going abit mental..
I think it was quite easy to teach as well the only thing that was harder to get was the roundhouse combo on T2 but they loved the switch knee when thewy got it..
A big thumbs up..
Rach very philosopical and funny:0)
I totally agree with you Lucy. I think the ESK was the best thing to be brought to combat. I think it is one of the most physically demanding moves in combat and for that people should see amazing results. That is why there are low options so people can kind of get a feel for the move. The same thing with the jump kick
Keep up the good work D & R.
Kiaora
Alright, so I think that many here are trying to say something, but cant really put the right words:
There's a reason why BodyCombat is one of the most loved programs of LesMills (if not THE most loved). You are right Rachael, it is the "passion" for the program. BodyCombat is special and i think many would agree with me on that point.
I started attending BC classes since BC21 and did my initial training on BC30. But many of my instructors have mixed up so many pre- D &R tracks, and each time they did, i would get this feeling of : hey, this doesn't really feel like BC, and i would really get annoyed sometimes because i felt i was doing these tracks just for the sake of "workin-out to fun music" as opposed to the most recent releases where i really feel like i am in a FIGHT. Don;t get me wrong though, yes, Ride On Time/ Mission Impossible/ There You'll be/ Faster, Harder, Scooter (and many more) are one of the best tracks ever!
Never the less, I do agree that BC has become somewhat "too serious", not for us BC junkies but for newbies, or for people used to N& G's style. I started teaching at a gym who just became licensed in LesMills, and I arrived as the first BC instructor there with BC 30. And i realized that there is no way on earth I could give them the entire realease and was oblidged to give them the 45 mins version instead ! Don't get me started on Amadeus; i always ended up doing the ESK alone. Even when i would give them the option, they would get so discouraged and many left the class!
I tought BC 32 only once. When i heard the CD befor watching the chore, I honestly felt like crying: I WAITED 3 MONTHS FOR THIS?!?! But when i watched the DVD, i completely changed my mind !
track 1 (upper/lower) - love the music, simple chore / what's with all the gingas? why are there no front kicks?!
track 2- music is baaad, loves the combo and the switch knee !
track 3- BEAUTIFUL! (my fav )
track 4- depressing song!! tooooo many gingas ! but very powerful track, haaard for participants to keep up with.
track 5- silly but FUN song
track 6- NOT a BC song ! down point in this release. where's the traditional katas ? (karate punch doesnt count !)
track 7- FINALY they let go of the rock stuff. love it
track 8 - too short, useless exagerated amount of skipping, but i like the song and the fact that chore is clean cut
track 9- ouch !
track 10 - nice! i miss those long cooldowns ! But BC20/ BC 25 will always be classics, sorry !

Hey Lyne17, good post but its a load of crap:
My newbies have never had an issue with this track, whenever i listen to instructors who winge on about the ESK the issue is with the instructor not being able to teach it in the right manner. Its essentially a side kick if you just want it to be a sidekick. If you dont want to go to level 4 then dont, that is your choice but i like to be challenged and so do my participants.
you say:
Don't get me started on Amadeus; i always ended up doing the ESK alone. Even when i would give them the option, they would get so discouraged and many left the class!
well i would say thats bad coaching skills and not the fault of the track!!
But i thought you said combat was "too serious", make your mind up!!!
You say:
track 6- NOT a BC song !
According to you, i think this is great.
where's the traditional katas ? (karate punch doesnt count !)
Are you insane, a karate punch makes up most katas in karate!!!!
track 8 - too short, useless exagerated amount of skipping,
It works perfect with the music and since when has skipping been regarded as useless!!??? Its one of the best ways to get fit. What is usless is having an instrutor who does not know the reason WHY you should skip!!!
Now if you dont mind i need to get back to my glass of bollinger!!
Oi mrrocket, where is my glass of Bollinger, and, more importantly, how can you stop at just one?!
I love track 8, the skips toward the end of the track really force my classes to lift their intensity (and their heart rate) - I speak the lyrics as I 'encourage' level changes, then most of my classes yell with me..."I don't care!" and go straight into the end Body rips. Plus, it's a short track, participants know this, and go hell for leather to the end. Heck, if the participants look like they're sick of the skipping, I always 'threaten' them with my singing - it's amazing how they'll pick up the pace...
