    microphones

Can anyone give me some suggestions on the mic/headset system you are using at your gyms that work well?  We recently began to run into problems with ours and our looking to change.   On some days we have up to 10 classes so they need to be durable.  Thanks! Mel-AZ

    Re: microphones

We use the Aeromics from www dot avnow dot com.  We had others before that, but they didn't hold up.  The Aeromic is more expensive, but IMHO worth the price for its quality and durability.  Depending on what you've got right now, you might be able to use your existing transmitters and receivers and just get an Aeromic headset with the plug that matches.

    Good luck,

    Re: microphones

    Hey Melissa,

We also use Aeromic in combination with Shure Bodypacks. Our main Studio also holds up to 10 classes per day so we can appreciate what you are up against. Aeromic has traditionally been the most robust, sweat resilent mic with good quality of sound.

    Best tips...

    1. Have spare headsets available for instructors should they 'sweat out', keep them in a dry environment to air out.

    2. Use a product like eGloop (corrosion protector) on the connector to the bodypack.

    3. Train your instructors on correct use - and remind them again & again :)

    Hope that helps.

    Re: microphones

Thank you for the information.  How often do you have to replace your headsets?

    Re: microphones

    How often do we replace?

Depends on usage and treatment...heavy usage & bad treatment - expect to replace every few months...otherwise expect 6-12 months from a microphone that is used up to 10 times per day and used correctly.

Common breakages requiring repair are...broken head frame (due to rough handling and not using both hands to carefully remove), blown capsule (blowing or yelling directly into microphone), crackly (usually corrosion in the connector which requires replacing).

I understand replacement of the frame is no longer an option - Aeromic are now producing a 'fatter' frame to combat breakages.

    Cheers

    Re: microphones

A few things I always thought about how some places stored their mics:

If the wind guard is wet, take it off to dry out rather than leaving it on the mouthpiece..

Don´t store the mic in a drawer wrapped in a soaking wet mic belt.

Wind guards can be bought for about 2 pounds. Buy replacements.

    Re: microphones

Thank you all for your help.  We do require all of our instructors to have their own mic belts and windscreens.  This has greatly helped in the mics not be left stored in a pile of sweat!
