    Biceps v Triceps weight

I can easily manage 6kg for the biceps track but only 3.5 or 4.5 (on a good day!) for the triceps.  I know that triceps are bigger and should be a larger weight, but I just can't seem to up this.  My weight for all other tracks ranges from 5 to 10kg on each side.  Have I just got very weak triceps?!  Up until 9 months ago I did zero exercise and had lost 90lbs through my diet.  I have loose skin around my tricep area but I am presuming this should not affect lifting!  I have been going to Body Pump classes 2-3 times/week for 2 months (and absolutely love it!!!).

Be patient...you're still just starting out!  It took me about six months before I could increase my weight on triceps!  And you'll start to figure out that you can lift more weight on different tracks...I can do more weight on "Rise Up" than on "Who knew" for example.  Same for biceps.  Hang in there, it sounds like you're on track for great results!

way to go on the diet!!

i have been doing body pump for almost an year and my triceps weight varies according to the track. usually my biceps weight surpasses my triceps weight so you shouldn't worry about it. anyway your triceps are bound to strenghten with time/

You sound like you are doing awesome. Way to go on the diet!  Everyone has a weak spot.  Triceps are also my weakness.  I've been doing PUMP for 4 years now and I still have time uping the weight on my tris and I can do WAY more on biceps.  When I started out, I was using the same weight for both.  Give it time.

As long as you are working hard, then there is no problem. Eventually you will always reach the limit of physical force that each muscle group can generate, and from then on technique will be the key.

You could try doing dips on your off days, as you can do them anywhere and they are a great way to tone up the tris.

    Re: Biceps v Triceps weight

I think technique wise, the standing up bicep curl form is easier because you have good sight of the instructor, whereas on your back laying on the step doing the tricep track you really have 2 options, 1 to look at the instructor to make sure your doing it at the right speed or 2 just listening to the instructors cues and keep your sight focused on your tricep technique.

Even though I've done about 20 pump classes, during tricep tracks on my back, I have nfi what the instructors are saying most of the time, calling out numbers which don't seem to mean anything.. so my vision is usually kept on the instructor and which results in my tricep exercise technique to be very bad.

I have been enough now to know the routines pretty well, so don't need to concentrate on the instructor as much.  Another class on Monday so will concentrate hard on the triceps and see how I get on!!

Thanks for all your comments and advice everyone!!  Glad to have found this site! Big Smile

Hey great job ont he weight loss - you're an inspiration to othersBig Smile

It's true that triceps are a larger muscle group then biceps (three heads "tri" versus two "bi") but don't forget functionally the biceps are used more in everyday life - carrying groceries, picking up children and so on - so it stands to reason that your biceps will be naturally stronger than your triceps.

Stick with it, you'll eventually be able to up your tricep weight!
