    Shiva salutations

Went to the launch of new release last weekend - sun sals is my favourite track, love all those downward dogs - esp the walking the dog one - and I am really disappointed with this shiva thing. It's just not the same and I don't really like it!! Why has it changed? Only been doing balance since 38.

Every now and then they will try something new. I love the move myself. Good warming and stretching move if done correctly. Smile

I think the Shiva Salutation is absolutely awesome. I have had nothing but positive feedback on the move. Also helps that the music to fab as well
    I'm damned, I'm hot and I just can't stop

    Re: Shiva salutations

I absolutely love the shiva salutations.  I think it makes the move so more open and when I do them, I feel like I really, really get into the pose moreso than ever before.  It's like I can breathe better -- it is the hardest thing to explain.

OP, please go into it again (I am assuming you are a participant? sorry if I am wrong) bring an open mind and think of the movement as all encompassing.  I wish I could better explain myself but it really has to do with a feeling rather than a reasoning why I love this so much.

    cheers, rosa

Hi Jen, What don't you like about the Shiva?

I like it a lot personally but I find it quite difficult to get my elbows completely together.  I also found the stepping fwd from down dog to the outside of the hands a bit tricky the first couple of times balance wise but now it feels great... I suspect it may grow on you. I hope so. B x

I just LOVE the Shiva Sals, they leave me feeling very spiritual and have asked the teacher to please keep this track in when she begins mixing them up.It is one of the best moves that I have ever done...

    Re: Shiva salutations

I like stepping to the outside of the leg from downdog - I usually have to move my hand out of the way anyway to get my knee to swing through enough when lunging forward so in this respect the shiva is better. I've been again with a different instructor - the one at the launch wasn't a regular one whose classes I go to - and it is growing on me. I just love the way the sun salutations in the last release had so much packed into them and in comparison this track seems a bit boring. I also find it hard to stay centred when doing the bow and arrow I want to lean away. In time I will get it better but I don't think it will ever be a favourite. We have some more downdogs and flat backs in the hammy track anyway to keep me happy. It is harder work than you'd think getting the elbows in too!

    Walking dog? In BB42?

You must be confusing it with BB41.

I love the Shiva, I think it is divine and warm and stretchy and just scrumptious.

    Jen

You'll find that the sun sal will change with every release. Variety is good. BB41 with all of its variety was wonderful, but just as you loved it, many people found it overcomplicated and are preferring the more simple nature of BB42s track. The wide stances allow a different focus - besides, I'm sure that your instructor will happily go back and mix in your favourite for you at some point in the future...

No doubt Jackie will bring back a more varied SS track in a future release...

Go with the flow - and enjoy the journey

    Re: Shiva salutations

Im so glad to see the new moves in the last 2 releases, they've been re hashing the same old stuff in the sun sals for years. I love the lunge to the outside of the foot, we had something similar in the hip openers a while back coming down onto the elbows, feels fantastic!!
