Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

If you don't have respect for the program or the people who teach it (male OR female), then why bother?  Just don't do it.

If you have legitimate suggestions and constructive criticism to strengthen the program, that's one thing.  But "add more punches and cooler, boxing type moves" and "keep out girly music" - I'm sorry, how exactly does one approach that?  "Hey Dan and Rach - can you make it 'cooler'?"  You need to find a way to make your criticisms less offensive (i.e. SEXIST) b/c your poor choice of words is very counter-productive.

I'm sorry but I just finished Body Combat training last weekend and it's quite possibly one of the COOLEST, most-challenging experiences I've ever endured.  If you don't like it, get out of the way and let someone who DOES love it teach the class.

Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

sadly the people in the area I have moved to like Turbo Kick but haven't done Combat. They are holding a Turbo Kick Cert this weekend. $135.00  every two yrs you have to get recertified and the ROUNDS cost around $50 not sure if it is Quarters.

I am working on them to bring Combat but I am the only Combat instructor here so they don't want to bring it on yet. But I am working on getting more people interested in it. I have taken TBK several times and I just get frustrated I can follow it and it really isn't super fast  it is just BAD FORM and sucky cueing and I have taken 3 different instructors so it is not the instructor. If you hitsome thing or some one  the way these instructors do you would hurt yourself  more than anything else!!!

Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

I've taken both of these classes and I actually like Body Combat more (but just slightly and for the wrong reasons).  I love speed (faster=better is one of my mottos) and the fact is that Body Combat's fast song is much faster than Turbo Kick's Turbo Song.  But at the end of the day there is no other cardio class in the world that compares with the cardio workout I get at home on my dance machine (I only go to one of these classes if I'm at the gym already and I need to wait for my wife to finish teaching yoga or something, I'd rather do a group ex class than anything else at the gym).

LOL.. ant in pants?? That rhyme u kno... :p

Hmmmmmmmmm.... Personally i don't think WATCHING is the same as DOING. One of my friend told me that BC is SO FUNNY. He hates it when he watched from the outside... I then take him to my 1st BC class with me.. Guess what? I LOVE it, and he LIKES it (lil different i know hehe). He still doing BC and like it more now :)

Just checked out that turbokick on you tube that was suggested ----OMG :-O

What was she doing?????? how fast???how out of control???

My thought exactly .... and take a look at her participants, they're all over the place, don't know what's coming next, I think the instructor (who presumably thinks she's great, since she's putting up videos of herself teaching) should stop drinking so much Red Bull!

While I was there, I took a look at a couple of other instructors .... strut their stuff. This took a couple of minutes total ... I got bored. One of them said "just some of these, nothing special" - boy did she hit the nail on the head.

OMG! I just watched Turbo Kick Monica on You Tube. The girl is all over the place. The only person following her is in the front row. She looks like another instructor.

I must say I have done TK many times before. They do not stress proper form. It is definitely more 'dancy'. I stood out like a sore thumb because of my form & the power of my kicks & punches. BUT, the people taking it liked it. The music was fun, some of the combos were good & I did like the Turbo portion. I say, to each his own! I am just happy that people are getting off their bums & exercising.

Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

Ok.  I figured this was worth a mention.  I just watched the Turbo Kick Monica Summer Special thing and I have to say it was really really weird.  I'm not sure what they were doing, but it wasn't boxing, kickboxing, karate, or anything even remotely related to a cardio fighting type of class.  I think maybe it's like Jam??

Not entirely sure since Jam isn't something I do, but it was definately worth a laugh.  That woman was on something for sure Indifferent

That's an intense woman right there Yes

I know Monica and she is a Spark plug! For Sure. She would never and has never said anything negative about Bodycombat instructors or the program. Turbokick does have a  Hip Hop edge and the music is Hip Hop, Dance and Disco, high energy. It is not intended to be as serious about "fighting" as Bodycombat. It is intended to be a Fun Martial arts based workout. I teach them both and I resepect the two programs. It speaks of immaturity, when I read about all the negative posts in this forum.

     AND SHE COMES OUT SWINGING!

Look, you are on a les mills site.  if you go to a chevy site then thier will be posts about how much ford sucks.  if you go to a coke site there will be posts about how much pepsi sucks.  and im sure some turbo sites think that combat is too serious.   Thats just the way it is.  This is a place for LM nutters to come and discuss what is pumping through our veins....les mills.

Second, did you see the video.  I dont care if Monica is a spark plug, on that video on you tube,  she looks like she is on 4 kinds of cocain and no slight resemblence to any chorey.  it speaks for itself when you look at the people trying to follow her.

I agree TK goes for a different demographic.  and im sure it suceeds, but if the questions comes up on here what we think about it..... you can be the peeps are going to stay true to what they love, violently if needed.

just dont call us immature.  this is a LES MILLS SITE.

There arnt many people like you who do both.... (mainly because why would you drive a gremlin when you have a porsche in the garage!)

how can you teach both, BC and TK, isn't it a violation of your LM contract?

Re: combat vs. turbo kick box

I've tried both Turbo Kick and BC. BS is the only format I currently teach, but I enjoy takihg other classes for crosstrainig. Turbo gives instructors a little more flexibility in the chory to change depending on their classes. Turbo also adds a little bit of a Body Jam flavor by adding in some hip hop and sometimes some simple dance moves combined with kickboxing. BC seems to be more structured track by track and teachers are not encouraged to stray from the choreography at all (and why would you want to change some amazing chory anyway?) BC and Turbo have different formats and techniques. I personally enjoy both of them, but if you find one you like more than the other, just stick to what you feel comfortable with. There are positives and negatives to each, and you have to find what is right for you.

Ah, another windup merchant with no profile!! Geeked

Nothing like doing things over and over to get better at them, something which you haven't quite figured out yet! Stick out tongue

Don't judge anything until you have done it yourself! Watching a vid of driving a racecar round a race circuit looks boring on Youtube until you try it yourself!!!
