New to Attack - Foot Pain

Sharp pain in the arch of my foot started in the middle of my first BA class last Monday. Waited until Friday to try Attack again and the pain started up immediately. I tightened up my shoe and finished the class. Not sure if that was the right thing to do b/c it is Saturday morning and it still hurts to walk...

Instructor said I was on the ball of my foot too much and need to get back on my heels more. Curious to see what other BA peeps think...

I'm no expert... but I used to get foot pain too. Make sure you're putting your heels down - once I started consciously doing this, the pains stopped. It may also be worth getting some sole inserts for your shoes to give you some extra support.

I 100% agree with the previous reply, but I also see problems with participants feet when they wear incorrect or old footwear. If you haven't invest in some great sneakers - its worth the investment.

some good posts up there, i would also recommend getting shoes specifically designed for your foot type, and find foot inserts as well. Proper technique pays off as well!

Thanks for the comments. Keeping my heel down is helping a lot. Still feeling some pain but I think whatever I did to it is healing itself.

Your instructor is correct  where this latest attack does put a lot of pressure on the foot, technique is very important.  I am not sure if you have a mirror at the front of your gym, if so go to the front of the class and watch how you are landing each move and inspect how your feet are landing.  One other thing, take the options where needed and this includes nursing an injury, you keep the fitness going and also help the mending process.

    Enjoy.

Re: New to Attack - Foot Pain

In reply to the original post, I had exactly the same problem, especially as this release had a lot of lunges, with changes in direction, etc. Our instructor has since mixed it up a bit, but she recommended I get inserts to support the arch. I went to a shoe store (best if it specialises in sport shoes, etc.) and got them fitted to my runners. Essentially, they're shock and arch support. Now, there is a lot less pain. A little discomfort, but I think that's pretty normal considering I do Combat, then Attack right after.

    Good luck!

    i felt this pain too

your instructor is probably right as wer'e not supposed to lean on the ball of the feet too much

even when we jump or leap, we should end the movement with the heel firmly standing on the floor
