    New BS Instructor - BS76

I'm teaching for the first time ever on BS76. Wondering how exact choreography needs to be for the cert video. Is it more important to follow the notes or the video? They differ slightly in a couple of places. Also, do we need to preview steps if there is not an eyeball symbol, for the video?

     Thanks!

that's a very good question!!! I myself am wondering what to do as well.I know that the video is done in reverse,so that you canstep with them, like you were a participant.I don't know,if you find out,let me know too!

At the quarterly I went to, we were to told to go with either. BUT, for the video assessment I'm surprised the instructor didn't raise it. Personally, I'd go with the notes. Then write a note with your submission explaining what you did.

And do your video as the instructor, not as the participant. That means leading with your left, their right.

Congratulations in joining the ranks of the best steppers in the world!

The choreography needs to be pretty accurate, but they don't fail you if you get it wrong here and there. The choreography notes and dvd are supposed to be the same, but they can make mistakes in both places. Use your best judgement, although I fail to remember any chor/dvd misses in 76.

Previews are optional, but they do make it easier for the members to follow you. There isnt always possible to preview a move, mind you. Again, use your judgment, as I do.

    Good luck and happy stepping!

    Hi Carmen

Congrats on becoming a BS instructor, the best programme LMI offer!!!

For video certification, it really depends on where you are not sure about the US but here in Australia, you are expected to know your chorrey, 100% is great however in saying that if you make a mistake you won't fail, as long as you get back on track within 8 counts it might even be 16 counts.  On a 3 strikes your out basis.  So don't worry.  They look for strong arm lines, and depth in your squats, track 5 particularly.  Don't forget to throw in safety tips, knees track your toes, body alignment etc.

As for previewing moves, where ever practical do use it, shows you know your chorrey (if you aren't sure of the chorrey you're not going to preview, right?).  Oh yeah, throw in a person's name or two, doesn't matter if they are in the class or not.  Shows you have connected with your class.

Smile alot and enjoy show your enthusiasm!!!  Good Luck!  Let us know how you go!

    Happy Stepping!!

Maybe it's in the manual and maybe it's not, it's something that we are always told at our training modules, so thought I'd pass it on.  It may be obvious to some and not to others, only trying to assist.

This is better advice than my previous post. I relearnt 75 while mixing and found the notes and DVD didn't match for track 12 and this time I decided to go with the DVD because it just made more sense.

    Upshot, use your best judgement.

Thx for the info guys, i just done my module training last weekend (03-04/10), was great fun. I find the note can be confusing, so personal i stick with the dvd & cd, coz the music actually does tell you what to do. i need to learn all the BS77 choro right for the cert. Good luck.

I asked one of the trainers here a while ago - they said always go with the dvd unless it tells you to otherwise. Whatever you decide thou just make sure you write what you followed in your assessment somewhere =)

Also make sure you show options just like in the video.  Not everyone in the class can go at it like they do on the video so I'm glad they have really been focusing on options as of late.  Also video tape several times and pick your best one.  Good luck.
