    45 minute step (77)

I just taught the 45 minutes step format for the first time.  I have one BIG problem with it.  We go from track 10 (Peak) to the cooldown, which is lying the floor.  Didn't give it much thought until I actually did it, and thought I was going to pass out.  Not sure that going from peak heart rate to lying on the floor is a good idea.  I am thinking I am going to change up track 10 a little to keep people on their feet to stretch.  Wondering if the Les Mills step team might consider this when creating the chorrey...and if the cooldown is choreographed for the floor, maybe create an alternative for those of us using the 45 min format.  I am trying to be good and stick to the rules, but I am certainly worried about participant safety.

Does anyone else teach this format?

I teach a 45 min class also, when it comes to the cooldown, I don't lie back down on the floor, just get the class to march on the spot and breathe in and out lifting the arms up and down a few times, then gradually pick up the original cooldown from the standing position and continue with it.  If most of the cooldown is on the ground then just do my own variation of it.  I too believe in sticking to the rules, but as long as you bring down the heart rate and stretch the muscles doesn't really matter if you stick strictly to the chorrey or not,as you mentioned safety first.

    Happy Stepping!
