OK, so the posters need to picture a 20, 30, 50, and a 60-80 year old all enjoying the class. I'm a new instructor and totally believe in the program. I think those of you who are concentrating on the color of the balls are forgetting what the program is all about! This program is truely based on the concept that anyone can do it. I'm 35 yrs old and love the music. In my opinion, tracks like copacabana are what make the older participant feel like this class is for them. Movements are defintitely modifiable unlike in BodyPump where weight is modified but full range of motion is needed to complete moves safely. I think that it is the responsibility of the GFM and the instructor to impress the point that even the physically fit have something to gain from a class like BodyVive!! I understand that in business visable marketing tools are important, but nothing takes the place of good old personal testimonies from management that believe in the program, instructors that demonstate all modifications, and participants that recieved a work out that keeps them coming back for more!!!!!!! As a participant before becoming an instructor, KUDOS!!! to the BodyVive team. As stated by all of my class participants which range in age from 20-80 yrs old, each release is getting better and more challenging!!!

Hi BODYVIVERS!….. On a previous post Marianck posted: “Decide why this class is special to you, and live it, breathe it! Your excitement about the program is contagious. I can feel your doubt just by reading your posts, so you've got to know your members will feel it, too! Figure out why you love BodyVive, and if you don't feel that passion already, what parts of it you do love, and focus on them” I just love that! From your posts, your belief in the program is evident. BV is an evolving program and has continued to evolve over the last year. Remember the power of connection, before & after class, catering to the needs of our classes. It can be a challenge to try to be everything to everyone, but we can address the needs of our participants in a variety of ways. Good news! In BV 6, it is indicated that LMI is working on new marketing strategies. Also, another great mix of a variety of music. The challenge is “on” is 6 for those that want it. The forum is an important part of our communication. Though the Program Directors do ask us to BLAH to be really heard. Please consider that to “be heard” I’m a trainer for BODYVIVE and hope you all “Hang on for the Long Haul” This program stands strong and has incredible potential to affect the lives of a whole group of individuals. KIA KAHA! Keep the Vitality Alive!

Wow, Susan, your post came at the perfect time...I really needed to hear you today!!! Its so good that the program director is listening to our concerns, too. I'm totally pumped that the marketing strategy may change...I really think that's what's holding us back.
I hope that everyone understands that some of us feel like we ARE doing everthing we can do to help this format be successful...venting here is very therapeutic. Its helps me dust myself off and get right back in the game.
For the poster that was wondering about the calorie burn with BV....from my personal experience, its about the same as a walking treadmill workout. Way more fun though!! I'm pretty fit, though, teaching BP three times a week as well as step aerobics, yoga, and pilates. For the people that come to class, its perfect...not as killer as a RPM class but definitely a workout.

Hi
I just wanted to say that I am really glad I found this thread.
Looking at the information my gym had about the class....I really liked the sound of what the class included and wanted to give it a try......but I was really put off by all the stuff about it being for 40-60 year olds (I'm 30).
After reading what has been said here I will now ignore the marketing and give it a try.
Thanks!

Hi
I loved the class - good fun and good mix of aerobic and conditioning...and the music was great! Glad I gave it a try despite the advertising.
Thanks.

I tried my first BodyVive class today and loved it. If you make it any harder than it already is, I probably will not go again. More and more people are suffering obesity and more and more people are feeling pressured to do something about it. I know I am. And I don't have the mobility to do most of the Les Mills classes (even with low options they are still too high for me) and BodyVive lets me even get up to Level 2 options! I am looking forward to getting to level 3! I was pretty much ready to give all further LM classes a miss because I have had such little success with them (see my post under General - what classes are suited to fat people?) and you will see that NOBODY recommended I try BodyVive, they all suggested BodyPump. I haven't tried that yet, I've watched it and it makes me nervous because I know just how UNfit I am, and how restricted my movement is because of my size. But I so agree with all of you that it's image needs a revamp. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it and disappointed that my gym is not giving it a really good go (Of the 14 locations, only 1 has bodyvive) and it isn't very popular. I agree that it needs to be marketed towards all age groups, both genders but I disagree the class should do 'more' push 'more' require 'more'. There are enough really fat people (like me) out there already who have no classes they feel comfortable enough to attend. BodyVive could really change that and give them a way to start their journey back to health and fitness.

First of all, congratulations on beginning your journey. If you want the program to pick up at your gym, the best way is through word of mouth. Talk to your friends about it, ask your instructor for guest passes so you can bring friends who may not have a membership to your gym but would really love the class.
I love that you have such passion after just one class, keep going back and you will learn to love it even more. I believe the key to staying on track with your workouts is enjoying what you do. It looks like you are more than halfway there!!!
High Vive girl!!!

I've been mulling this over since my last post, because of the issues BodyVive faces at my gym. My gym has 14 in the chain in my town, and I have access to all of them. Only ONE does BodyVive and not the one convenient to me. I asked if it was likely to go to ANY of the other gyms in the chain and was told, "no, they are the wrong demographic". To me, this HAS to be a marketing issue. You can't have 13 gyms with the wrong demographic for a class. So how would I market this class (Now that I've been an entire three times???). Well firstly this class is a recovery class - a chance to reVIVE and to surVIVE. It is a fantastic class for people recovering from illness or injury. People needing a low impact class that also has the ability to make them stretch as they improve and recover. It is wonderful for those with mobility issues, whether caused by injury or body shape. It is fabulous for people with low fitness or high BMI. It also makes a great recovery class for those incredibly fit people who do long hard workouts and need a good cool down session. This class incorporates pieces of Yoga, Pilates, BodyJam, BodyBalance, and aerobics. It is an excellent introduction session for all members who want to find out a bit about the Les Mills classes. It can be as hard or as gentle as your needs are and it is great for all ages. ReVIVE and SurVIVE with BodyVIVE. It's the total workout no matter where you start.

When I first heard about this new program I thought that I would be interested in it (to instruct, that is)... so I had a look at a class, but one of the clubs I work at marketed it all wrong! The music alone, would do my head in.
Yes, clear marketing is important as it can create lasting negative impression on the participant if they feel that have just wasted an hour of their time.
Now recruiting more FREAKS... You gotta be in it to win it!

What a great discussion we have going on here. I am a new Vive instructor, I did my module last week. I'm a 31 year old male so trying to do my bit to help the image, just to show it's for everyone. I admit I wasn't to sure what to think the first time I tried it but now I love it. Haven't seen much of the marketing material so can't really comment but I guess it needs to picture a mixed range of people. I like the thought of black balls to match the black tubes, yes it is only a colour but to some people it will make the difference. (It's not going to cost anymore for LM to produce both.) If you want it to work in your club and appeal to all, your range of instructor should reflect this i.e. male & female of mixed ages. And once again us guys get neglected when it comes to clothing LM Clothing New Zealand, LM Australia, Fitpro UK & Portugal don't offer mens vive clothing! Only LM USA Collection, Brazil & LM West Coast offer mens and it's not as good as the other program clothing. Why can't I get a vive top in the Extreme range like I can with pump or the Turn It Up, and come to think of it why isn't balance in the extreme range! My final comment is I love the quote... "ReVIVE and SurVIVE with BodyVIVE."
