    shoes

I've been doing BP for a couple of years, but since my goal is weight loss, I've recently increased my cardio (with good results!).  I love BC & now BS too - though I'm not very good at it yet.  What kind of shoes do you recommend?  I've tried Nike Shox & Reax and Asics Gel Trainers, but have trouble with the ball of my foot and toes going numb.  My BC instructor likes Nike Free.  Do you think Frees would work for step?  The sports shop with the best reputation in town has almost all running shoes and only two styles of aerobics shoes, so if you have a running shoe recommendation, I'd love to hear it.

    Thanks!

    Re: shoes

There is another thread on shoes.  Goes back a bit but what the heck.....

I find that if my feet go numb my shoes are tied too tight.  If I loosen them off the numbness goes away.  But be careful when you loosen them off.  I got some blisters when I loosened off too much - especially in Track 10 of BS70 when spinning.

Also switched shoes to Saucony.  The just fit my feet better.  Keep trying till you find the shoes that fit you right.  The pros at your sports shop should be able to help.

     Good luck.

    Hi:-)

Have you tried basket ball shous? I have no experions with them self, but they are good for stability, running, and jumping. I get that tip from Trainer who work in the gym. I am training buth Body Combat and Body Step my self. But find a good shou who work for both classes are wery hard. Beccous a "clean" running shou is focused on the move focoused on forwould working. A Body Combat shou need more stabillity and abillity to move side-way.

    Re: shoes

I have found that Cross-trainers work the best, especially with all of the lateral moves we do in BodyStep.  Running shoes just don't cut it for me!

I personally love the Ryka line of cross trainers but I think shoes are really going to be foot specific.

Lots of better sports shops have little red rubber "cookies" that go right behind the balls of your feet to relieve numbness in the toes and also a burning feeling in the toes.  Go to the sports shop and see if they have something like this.  If you don't get immediate relief, I think a podiatrist should be the next place you stop.

    Good luck,

Excuse me... May I motivate you?

    Re: shoes

I agree! You need cross trainers- running shoes can really mess you up because they're not designed to move side to side.

    Re: shoes

OK, I'm not sure if LM addresses this.  When I first started teaching Step (think 15 years ago) we absolutely would not allow our participants to step in running shoes.  Why??  Becasue the sole of the foot is slightly wider than the shoe and there was an increased risk of  "edging" the Step-where the outside of your foot makes contact with the Step-not the full foot causing to slip (best case scenario) or roll your ankle (worst case) and fall.  So way back in the day we had "aerobic" shoes.  They gave more ankle support while having more lateral support for those lateral days.  Ahh those were the days.  Now most people use cross trainers-which I don't like to use for Step or Hi Lo, but make do with them.  Wish they'd bring back the aerobic shoes though.  So find some good cross trainers.
