Or like you're on a football team. Or in basic training. He did say it works in Combat, which seems to have more of that feel to it. I'm not saying it's an approach that should be used, or used in Step. But I read it as similar to a couple of my immediate responses, i.e. thought did cross my mind....wouldn't act on it....but the idea that you have to actually remind an adult that she or he is not the center of the universe is so surprising.......
So how would you handle the situation as the instructor? If you ignore it, how are you taking care of the other participants in the class? You've got a class full of people who paid their money, and those around the talkers are hating it (to use your expression). What do you do that is effective?
Just like Tim's description of a member taking off her shoes during a class and continuing.....some of these choices that participants make are surprising to me. Surprising not in a good way. Because, in all honesty, and depending on where I am mentally that day, if I think you're being disrespectful to me and to other participants and adversely affecting the workout that my class participants have paid to get, it is within me to address it right then and there. I've already said most days I'd be ready mentally to handle it easily during class, and/or if it seemed appropriate privately with the oblivious ones after the class. But, I'm human, so I'm trying to prepare for those other days.
So, this kind of discussion...with suggestions of how to handle it...is helpful to provide ideas for addressing the disruption, so the addressing of it leads to a successful outcome for the maximum number of people.
