    still love the oldies!

have been doing jam for about 5 years - and when it comes time to mix I LOVE going back to the single tracks (mixtures of all dance types & GREAT cardio tracks) - i can understand how the new style allows new particpants to gradually build up the technique (however, step taps over & over do get a little boring!!), but our gym has picked up the last few releases so quickly that we're asking to mix after 2-3 weeks. Also, if you don't enjoy a particular style, you have to keep going for 1/2 hour... at least with the single tracks, they were over in 4-5min!!! Would love to see jam incorporate the best of both types (rountines and single songs) to cater for us jam-fanatics and newbies! Looking forward to 45!

I too love doing old releases, especially 35. I totally love that jazz block! I request it to my instructor every chance I get. I fear, though,  that since this is an old release, eventually it will be forgotten and it won't be used anymore. I totally love it, so I hope that never happens.

I so agree with you Janelle. I recently rang the master trainers to check how long we should teach a release for and they now say 3-4 weeks. The old format could be taught for at least six before the class became bored.i always try to teach a block and then singles when mixing because if i give them all single oldies they hate going back to blocks in a new release.

It is hard to do the layering of base, flava, and breakout if you're limited to one song. As a participant it was hard to latch onto the moves in the single-song format as sometimes I'd be able to figure it out only when the song was nearing its conclusion. I just didn't feel like I was dancing for the most part.

In 45 we do go back a bit to the single-song format in the Roppongi Line Dance and Feedback tracks. But I think of Jam as something to be savored and I love how the 18 or 32 counts of choreography during the second block comes together into a big breakout in the end.

Single track mixing is for aerobics fans...

The new format caters to people who really enjoy dance and the ability and the opportunity to just breakout and achieve.

Learn to be more open to change and the beauty of allowing yourself to be swept up in a dancing frenzy.... That will never happen with single tracks.

    Re: still love the oldies!

Some recent releases have had mixes of "long" blocks and "short" blocks. 43 had the standalone Reggaeton track; 42 had the short Latin block and the short Contemporary Rock block (2 songs each); 41 had the short Latin block (2 songs) and the Swing/Jive block (2 songs - and each of those 2 tracks could also be used as standalone tracks too...).

They do a decent job of mixing it up, no?

I never tried the old style of Jam - the first BodyJam ever launched in Canada was #34. It sounds a little haywire though... but maybe sometime I'll get to experience it. I love the long blocks, myself.

I think you might be talking about release 40 here, as 41 had the 3-song Oldskool block, 1-song "La Bomba" and 1-song "Good Luck" (although "Good Luck" was actually remixed to make it longer).

    Re: still love the oldies!

Yeah I think they're doing a better job of mixing in single-track stand-alones with blocks. I enjoyed the single tracks when I got to try the older releases but I like layering the sequences through a bunch of songs better for the learning experience. It's when they drag it out a bit ( like I feel happened in the house block of 44) that I start to get bored.

I was surprised but my members loved the simple one! I thought they would be tired of it and they requested it AGAIN! I guess they needed the brain break...anyway the next one looks like their brains and bodies will be challenged again!
