    first time

do you remember the first time you tried step?

    how did it go?

I remember doing allot of basic steps while I try to figure out how to do all those different moves... speed step can be tricky for a newbie!

    now 8 months later I do 1 - 2 classes a week and I really enjoy the work-out.

    Re: first time

Oh yeah, I remember :-)... I first tried free-style step as an undergrad 10 years ago (back when rhythm is a dancer was still a popular track), when I was much more coordinated (lol). I had to drop it about 4 years ago due to knee issues and was so sad! My good friend used to teach it back then and we had lots of fun selecting music and moves.

Just started up again a few months ago, now that I finally had surgery and, am totally loving it again. It definitely has been harder for me to pick up the moves this time around, which I didn't anticipate :-) and I still get quite a bit nervous to launch jumps off of the leg that was operated on, but it's great and I am so glad to be back! We have such a great energetic and enthusiastic instructor and the class is a lot of fun!!! I do about 1-2 classes per week.

    Re: first time

I belived I wos pritty looky with the realis when I start. It wos not to mutch coordination. I start at BodyStep 70. But at same time I do an alternativ free-stile-cardio-clase at same time. To mix this up, I always had one safe class that make great result. And one "unsafe". But I have in thought it wos an B.C.-class. Becous I figiure out this two stay closer to eatcather then B.S. and B.P. First time I did it, I do it well on the most. Only not in the first track, when we are moving side-ways and around the step... And the dance-track...
Liv hard, train hard, Die hard:-D!!!

    Re: first time

Haha, this thread brings back memories! I thought step would be the easiest class of the lot, but I walked out of my first class and it took over a year to go back (bit of a shot to the confidence!)  =D Started at 69 and no regrets! Helps to have some great instructors in Aucks. Anyone got some really good stories from their first class??

    Re: first time

Brilliant. My sister finally came to one of my classes last night and I swear she was going to puke she was so terrified! Major flashbacks :) But she got about 60% of it... swears she'll never do it again... but bet she'll be there next week, front row centre (bit of guilt tripping maybe). Good times!

    Re: first time

Yeah I remember my first time like it was yesterday. I'd only ever done a circuit class before and decided to try out the Sunday night class (BodyStep). That was release 47, the warmup was Fame and at the end of that track I had the hugest grin on my face. And it was all cool fun for the rest of it too. That reminds me, I really should dig out Turning Japanese and learn it!

I now refer to moments of realisation and awakening like these as "Fame moments' !

    Re: first time

Were any of you ever afraid of having two left feet or worry you'd trip / fall off the step?

I was more worried of looking bad in front of all the women... Embarrassed

    Re: first time

I have fallen a fwew times and just laughed it off. And I am always i guess you can say worried because i am the only guy that takes the class.

    Re: first time

I have also fallen (several times)..LOL ! I just laugh, dust myself off, keep going and try not to embarrass myself too much.

That's so awesome that you take step jerseyboy! I wish there were men that took step (and bodyjam) at our gym and that the male/female ratios were balanced! It's such a good workout, and I really think the men would like it (its a million times more fun for me then an elliptical and I push myself harder), but I have a tough time recruiting males to come with me :-). That being said, I also have a tough time trying to get other women to come with me. I think step can be a bit intimidating to some. I know was definitely a bit nervous to go back, after so many years of knee issues, and my brain definitely has a tough time trusting my two left feet to do the moves correctly, but I just love it! I am SLOWLY getting better... I just hate when I don't get something and I end up on the wrong side of the step and have to jump over it quickly to catch up!

    Re: first time

I agree! Step is so much more fun than the elliptical. lol. In the step classes i go to (btw i just go back from step and combatBig Smile) and problay out of all of them, i am the only guy that takes them. But one of the step instructors is a guy too. I have tried to get some of my friends to go to any of the classes with me but i haven't had as much success as i was hoping for. And i also think it would be nice if the male/female ratios were balanced. I have noticed more guys taking the classes, suprisingly my favorite, flow. But none in step yet. Also, I CANT WAIT FOR JAM!! Im looking for moduals in that and flow.
