    Yes [Y] Feedback for instructors

This is not a rant, it's just friendly feedback.

I used to do about 6-7 classes a week (pump, step and attack) for about four years. I was committed because the instructors at the gym were committed. One in particular was full of energy and treated participants with respect. Now I've done my last class and will stick to doing weights and running from here on in.

    Why?

Lack of the above mention respect and commitment. For example, when there is an instructor workshop on, classes at my gym just get cancelled at the last moment and we all get sent home.

So my feedback to instrctors is to shown some respect and commitment to your participants and they will keep coming back.

BTW Instrctors that ask the class for feedback don't need it, the ones that don't ask often do.

    Re: Feedback for instructors

You need to remember that the instructors are attending the workshops ultimately for you - the participant....when our quarterlies are upon us we all attend so WHO is gonna teach pump if ALL pump intstructors are attending the workshops??

We normally have to cancel our classes because our quarterlies are in glasgow and edinburgh and we live in Aberdeen approx 3 hours away by car....if that doesnt show commitment and passion for our classes then sorry I dont know how to please people like you...I love my classes and my participants totally understand why we have to cancel

You are getting the instructors mixed up with the group fitness manager of the club! When instructor workshops are on, the instructors need to do them to get the latest releases to give you updated classes. The group fitness manager knows this way in advance! If the classes can't be covered by another instructor (which could be doubtful if they all go to the workshops!!) the manager should put an alternate class on or cancel the class in advance! That's OK. We instructors are always taking flack from participants about what is really bad management of the classes by the fitness managers!! Wink

Get your comment cards into the club it'self on cases like this. Let them know you are not happy.

    Re: Feedback for instructors

Hey not everyone who is group exercise manager are bad!!! I am a GEM as well as instructor and when the quarterlies are on  all my instructors are going and any instructors who are not Les Mills qualified are either enjoying their weekends off or teaching already so sometimes it may be impossible to put any class on altogether and that is why classes are cancelled - We must stop blaming the management team all the time...SOME are conceintious and concerned for the members!  I hate to have to cancel but sometimes there simply is NO alternative - hell I have even asked if gym team would do something and they just dont want to know!

I don't think cancelling is the problem. I understand that sometimes it has to be done. In the case the poster was talking about - being told at the last minute is the bad management. That would p*ss me off. Hate when get myself all psyched up for a class and get there and its cancelled. Doesn't happen often though. But quarterlies do have to be held and what my gym does is tell everyone a week in advance, put up notices etc.

Yes, Breaker is on it, sounds like who ever is actually running the club schedule is not doing a good enough job notifying the members of class changes.

Also, in some countries, well, here in Mexico anyway...The quarterlies were actually open to the participants and 'fanatical' members ( use of a better word sorry) were allowed to participate in the 'workshop'. Dont know if thats an option where you are but it might dissolve those feelings you have about ' respect and committment'  and give you a taste of what the instructors do to keep their classes updated and interesting for their participants.
