weight loss with Pump stories, please?

hi all, i've just posted that i did my first BP class (2 days ago), and have already received lots of encouragement (which is really, really fantastic!)

what i'm asking for now is - has anyone lost weight with BP - i mean, i'm quite certain, even after only doing one class (so far), that one would lose weight and shape up quite nicely.....i'm just wanting to be inspired.

i'm planning to do 2 classes per week (all i can do with the available chilcare in my gym :), and also some cardio stuff after the classes.

    thanks in advance!

There can be some really dramatic changes with Pump and Diet.

Me and my wife slowly lost weight doing Pump and Combat, then we started eating healthily and the weight really started dropping off.

And we've seen some real changes in our participants.

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

When I started BP I weighed 265lbs and was wearing pants with a 40" waist. I now weigh 185 with a 32" waist and 9% body fat.

When I started working out it was only BP, I was doing no cardio. But after the weight started coming off I added cardio. Then things really started to change on my body. Of course diet has everything to do with weight loss. With out the proper diet all the time in the gym is waisted.

You are on the right track, stay focused, stay committed and stay strong!!

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

Pump can totally help get you on the right track to losing weight.  I walked into my first PUMP class 6 years ago and I never left.  I never thought that working with weights could be so much fun.  I originally lost 30 pounds the first year, but I've also lost inches around my waist.  Went from American size 12/14 to 4/6.  And my body fat is the lowest it's ever been.

I now teach PUMP and COMBAT and tonight I'm teaching my first few RPM tracks.  YIKES!!  You do need to have some more cardio training along with PUMP which is why I was so excited when I took Combat for the first time.  I like to tell my classes that I now have a body built by Les Mills.  (you can see my before picture on my profile) Keep it up, you will feel and see a difference.

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

The very first time I had every stepped foot in a group fitness class was into a BodyPump class 2 years ago. SInce then I have lost 45 pounds doing nothing but BodyPump, BodySTep and BodyFlow. and eating healthy. Also I now teach BodySTep and BodyFlow. SO the journey has come full circle for me! Just amazing and I cant imagine life without Les Mills programs! Good luck!

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

    Here's my story.....

For the majority of my life I have been extremely physically active... swimming, cycling, springboard diving, and I even taught Step Aeorbics in my early 20s.  During my entire age span of 25 - 35 I weighed 165 lbs and had a 30" waist.  I am 5' 11" male, so I consider this very healthy.

At 36 I got a job where I spent a lot of time sitting at a desk at work and I started to put on weight.  I also drove total 2.5 hrs every day to get to and from work... plus started eating more then I ever had before and exercised less.... then I was laid off work and as a result had a bout of depression... and became extremely inactive because I couldn't afford my gym membership.... pants got tighter... shirts stopped fitting.... so over the next 3 years I gained weight and ended up a painful 205 lbs (owww, my knees).

At 38 I figured enough was enough.  That age is a danger zone for many men especially if they gain extra weight since it is more difficult to get rid of once we hit 40.  Even though it took a lot of budgeting, I purchased a gym membership, walked into Les Mills classes, and the rest is history.

I started first by reading "Body For Life" by Bill Phillips to fine-tune my diet (I didn't like too much junk food/ fast food/ fried food/ prepackaged foods anyway, I just had to figure out better ways to eat and how to minimize calories).  Also the book gave me a great insight to exercising techniques and effective methods to increase results.  So my diet was already pretty good, I just needed to kick my butt into gear to regain my health by giving a little effort.

It began with two BodyPump classes a week.  Then I added on an RPM class.  Then I added on one BodyFlow class to increase my flexibility.  Within my first three months the pounds literally flew off... I had lost 20 lbs and weighed 185 lbs... I couldn't believe the change... and as I said, my diet was already tuned up so this was all due to effort alone.

ALSO MAKE A NOTE that I really, REALLY worked in Pump and RPM.  Once I got the technique down I LOADED UP MY BAR until by the end of each track, I was literally exhausted.  Same with RPM- I was a pool of sweat and open-mouthed breathing by the end of the mountain climb.  I knew that only one person was going to get the results for me... and that was ME.

After another 3 more months (6 in total now) I was back down to 175 lbs and a 32" waist. Then I was approached by one of my LMI trainers who was impressed with my efforts and asked if I would be interested in instructing the classes....  and here I am.

It's hard to believe I actually had to drag my butt out to the gym to make just two BP classes per week... that seemed like such an effort at the time.  Now I instruct 5 regular classes per week (3 BP, 2 RPM) without batting an eyelash and usually add on one more sub class to cover someone's class, or just do a BodyStep class because I want a little more cardio.

Although I weigh 185 lbs now I am back into 31" pants and I have completely reshaped my body, especially in the arms and chest, which I know is due to BodyPump because LMI programs are all I do in the line of regular exercise these days.  I am also mistaken for being in my mid-30s a lot Stick out tongue

Hope my story helps to inspire you and give you a little insight onto one person's journey.  Person  I really like that previous quote... "Body By Les Mills".... that's what I'm sporting too!

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

    great goingYes

i lost 73 pounds in a year but i still have a long way

as for the initial question in the thread BP did not help me lose the weight but it did help me keep my muscle mass high so the weight i lost was 95% fat.

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

I haven't lost a bunch of weight (because I didn't need to) but my body has been reshaped and strengthened.  Just last week I had 2 members come up and tell they've lost 20 pounds since starting BP a year ago.   I love to see lives changing.

     great story, Larry, and everyone!

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

wow - thanks for that everyone...and keep them coming please!  hearing how well others have done, with losing weight, and strengthening really motivates me, i must say :)

since my coordination is shocking (and i'm not exaggerating!!! :) :), i think i'll stick with classes that don't require a lot of choreography (like body pump, and, i'm hoping, today's fitball class), and doing the cardio stuff in the gym (have discovered the elliptical - although i almost fell off it...did i mention...not so coordinated? :) :)

soon i'll have a story to tell as well!!

    many, many thanks,

    tracy

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

I started BP around Christmas time as an alternative to my regular lifting routine.  It was the perfect cross training to my winter spinning.  My original goal was to just maintain fitness through the winter months.  I started dropping a few pounds and then joined Weight Watchers.  I've now lost about 30 pounds and dropped 5" around the waist.  It's made a HUGE difference in my cycling.  The "down side" is that I've had to buy a bunch of new clothes!! LOL  I'm 63 and it's hard to believe you can drop this kind of weight and still gain strength, tone, and still have a lot of fun doing it.

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

I've not lost weight but I've dropped 3 dress sizes in a year.  After years of attending freestyle classes I was starting to give up hope, but after about 9 months of attending Pump, I caught sight of myself in the mirror one day and got a (nice) surprise.  Got a bigger surprise when I needed to buy a new outfit for an interview and had to try on several different sizes before I got a fit (I don't buy new clothes that often and I very rarely weigh myself).

Although I teach Attack, I attribute this to Pump, cos it's a change of shape and definition ( Surprise ) that I've seen.  And to think I only do it cos I love it Big Smile

    Not tired are you???

Re: weight loss with Pump stories, please?

I've been doing BP for 4 weeks 3x a week, and cut cardio from 5x a week to 3x a week with one of those cardio days being moderate intensity.  I was already lean with an athletic build.  I've lost 5 lbs, my stomach is flatter and I know my body fat percentage has dropped.  I'm starting to rip up, and members are starting to comment.  Actually, members are commenting about all of our instructors and the changes in their physiques.  We just launched at our club, and the instructors have been training for 4 weeks.....I'm impressed with what it has done to everyone so far!
