As I have never taken a ´turbo kick box class´ I can not offer an absolute informed opinion. I believe anyone has the right to express themselves creatively in any manner or form, so out of curiosity, I searched ´youtube´ and found various videos of it and I have to say...... ¨¨What the?¨¨
While I am sure video clips can hardly give the real essence and feel to a class, I found the instructor self induldged and performing rather dangerous ballistic movements with poor technique in both cuing, contact and form. The persons in class looked confused and disengaged. Í wont knock it completely as I havent tried it, but it certainly does not look like a class I´d take time out of my day to do. Apart from the grating personality of the instructor and her gyrating pelvic work it would be best called something else rather than any association with ´kickboxing´. There was also a reference that she stated that her classes were the only classes ever to use real music?? What is that about? Quote... ¨¨all other classes use elevator music¨¨... what?
I have taken various boxing and kickboxing style classes over the last 20 odd yrs and as an instructor, ¨Thomas the Promise´´, Billy Blanks etc, offered some initial styles, even some awesome classes were produced by pro boxers and provided us with some great basic work to improve upon. BodyCombat is the revolution, it is evolving and transforming every release. I dont know who you have been taking BodyCombat classes from but you seem to be missing the essence, learning and technical aspects of the class. The music is there as VARIETY not everyone likes to listen to repetitive heavy bass, hip hop or sometimes offensive rap while they exercise...I enjoy most all music but think music selection is an extrememly difficult task and your not going to please everybody all the time. Its about finding a driving beat and rhythm to work combinations of choreography with and as I mentioned, safety... throwing uncontrolled punches and kicks with bad technique to fast music is going to cause injury to participants... be careful!
BodyCombat is emerging as the best group conditioning class that contains a combination of AUTHENTIC martial arts/boxing/kickboxing/tae kwon do/muay tai/ based training techniques. Its focus is about safety and group exercise and having contact and expression in class. Its up there with the best classes I have experienced to date.
Do what makes you feel good, but I´m sorry that you are missing out on what BodyCombat is all about.
List of things to do today.
