Re: Jam is being replaced by Zumba!!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I don't understand why two classes can't work out in the same gym - they did in mine before i moved. I do, however, understand clubs would rather offer a non-licence class (for clubs) than pay $ for LM.

I agree Zumba might pose as a threat but equally LM - they're not really doing clubs a favour charging them to hold their programmes. Again, a debatable subject, at the end of the day, it's all about the business.

I'm certified in Jam and Zumba but i can't imagine giving either one up. Sad Guess you just don't have any say in it sometimes...

Sorry they took your class off. How do you get along with that Zumba instructor who took over?

This is timely post for me as I am getting ready to go take my first Zumba class (I am a Jam instructor as well).

I'll let you know what I think when I return!

There's one coming up in a couple of weeks.  A few instructors are going as well.  I can't go because I have to cover someone at work :-(  Oh well, better luck next time.

Well, after taking Zumba the other night, I have no worries about Zumba taking over in Knoxville. Jam ROCKS.  Zumba is easy, too easy, because it is 60 minutes of repetitive moves per song, latin music the entire time, and the lyrics of every songs say "Zumba" somewhere in them.  I wanted to walk out after 10 minutes but didn't want to be disrespectul.

Re: Jam is being replaced by Zumba!!

You might have judged Zumba too quickly. My Zumba hour gets participants sweating and panting at the end of the class and no one seems they want to walk out because they keep returning. It's as "easy" as the instructor makes it, there's an option to make your own class and choreography or follow Zumba choreo and music.

I love teaching Jam as well and i understand why you might feel like that about Zumba but i like both classes. In all fairness, they both have special feel to it but i really don't agree Zumba is too easy. It can be if the class is still new and instructor is still introducing the moves or if the class just prefers taking it easy- it most certainly isn't easy with me.

But you did right not walking out of the class, even though it was just out of respect.

Just wanted to share my piece of mind.

Re: Jam is being replaced by Zumba!!

Zumba has recently replaced Jam at my club.  I really love Jam, but unfortunately the students feel more successful with Zumba and the numbers speak for themselves.

At first, the music horrified me, but you can mix in your own songs, and just like any class, depending upon the instructor, Zumba can be a great cardio workout.  Although it can be repetitive for me as an instructor, the success rate is higher for the participants and they keep coming back for more, WITH THEIR FRIENDS!

I have to admit, I don't miss the stress of learning new dance moves every few months!  It takes me much less time for me to learn Zumba routines. Smile

Even though my Jammers miss it, they're still gettin' their groove on in Zumba!

So keep on Jammin' for me!

Good luck with all of your programs.

    Bottom line...get more people movin'!

Re: Jam is being replaced by Zumba!!

This has happened in my club too...they all but pushed Jam out.  The funny thing is...a majority of the participants I talk to say the exact same thing..."Zumba is fun...but I like jam so much better" i hear all the time and I'm just like GET YOUR BUTT TO CLASS!!!!  Course the whole midwest (Save Gold's Gym) is like not supportive of any LM program so it just sucks.

    Hey Jammers,

I never tried Zumba and I'm quite sure I want to stay with Body Jam. Can we talk more about les mills programs?

This thread is about how Zumba's popularity is affecting ( or not) Jam's existence in clubs. It is of interest to those of us who are concerned about our jobs and favourite programs.

But most certainly we can talk about other LMI programs. Is there a thread you'd like to start, perhaps with a topic not being covered in the forum so far?

Hello!  Earth to Miss Clueless!  We can have a thread about Tae-Bo or Zumba or anything else we want, and you can feel free to not join in if you don't want to.

Mebbe you think your post will earn you some brownie points with LMI?  Fat chance!  You've got too much competition wanting to do that.

Why don't you want to try Zumba?  Are you like that with everything?  Zeesh!

    ohh

Very smart comment! how long did you think about this???

This website is design for people who are passionate about les mills programs. It's not zumba.com  It is lesmills.com. I don't need to earn any points, it's just logic. I don't afraid any competition as well. You are funny, better grab the bar and start to work. I'm moving to New Zealand soon to breath fresh air.

You were never part of any conversation; you were simply a rude interruption of our conversation. ¡Vete, Bruja!

Our location has a very large and very successful outdoor pool mainly for kids, and of course there are lots of young moms lounging around watching their kids.

Zumba has mid day, pool side classes which are attracting lots of new participants to their regular classes.  I did one the other day mainly because of all the attractive moms in their two piece attire, and it was lots of fun.  Also I knew the instructor from when she was a BJ participant. Too bad BJ doesn't have poolside classes.

Re: Jam is being replaced by Zumba!!

I haven't posted in a while but I was learning 49 and felt like signing in for a change and then I saw this thread.  So, I teach both Jam and Zumba.  I like being able to teach both (definitely keeps me busy. lol.).  Yes, Zumba packs more numbers than Jam at our club as well.  Jam does at the beginning of a new release when we launch but then it dies out.  Zumba has been consistent and is still growing in numbers (but it is also fairly new at our gym and is easier to follow).  I find it quite an advantage to teach both because I can and have used moves in Zumba that are also in Jam or vice versa and that helps a lot (if people come to both).  Hopefully by doing that, it helps to promote both classes.. :)
