    Injuries from BodyStep 76

I have been doing BodyStep since 2002 with no injuries.  For the first time ever I have pulled the tenden in my arch of my foot.  I can barely step.  It was caused by learning track 10 moonwalk 2.  Members are also complaining of their wrist hurting in 11b for the dips.  I like track 10 but having the moom walk in both track 6 and 10 seems to be a bit much and I will probably have to take a break from teaching step for awhile or just do low options until this heals.  Did anyone else get injured with this release?

I didn't get injured, but found that I cannot do the walking dips in the tricep track.  I have carple tunnel and both of my wrists would go numb and stay numb for about an hour after class.   Instead, I use a plate and to overhead extensions.

Also, no members in any of my classes will do the moonwalk in track 10.  They all take the low option.

    Re: Injuries from BodyStep 76

I hurt my knee, i must have turned too fast or something while 'galloping', at least I can't think of any other move that could have caused this. I didn't have difficulties with moonwalk, I actually loved that move. :) I have been doing BodyStep for 5 years and I have never before had any bigger problems so I think I was just unlucky? Can't blame the release, only the gallop move. I've always hated that move and after this even more. It's been 2,5 weeks since I got injured and I still have some problems using my knee properly so I think I am taking quite a long break from BS :(

My arch after 3 weeks is still giving me problems so I'm only doing low options until it heals.  Right now we only have 2 BodyStep instructors who can teach me included so I have to continue to teach.  We have some future instructors that will be able to help out in a month or so after they launch and learn another release besides BodyStep 75 members are way over that one.  I had one member tell me to burn that release!!  Thanks for the feedback.   I

    Re: Injuries from BodyStep 76

I've been stepping since 1989 (instructor and participant) and I've never seen such resistance to a step as the moonwalk. I don't think it's the step per se, it's just that there is so darn many of them. I remember the 1 minute repeater rule (no more than a minute doing repeaters) and Les Mills step classes do then a lot longer than that, especially that last track before the standing leg work. In a class of 25-30 participants, I do the moonwalk, with maybe one or two other people. But, if you aren't doing the moonwalk, you are doing a ton of repeaters in a short amount of time.

    Hey hey,

Same thing with the tendon through the foot which I'm 99% sure is from the volume of moonwalks.   This built up over the first 3 weeks of 76 release to point of unbearable :(  To experiment I did one week only demonstrating low option and pulled up ok.  As soon as I put it back in the next week even pulled up super sore and could barely walk on it for next 3-4 days.    Never had this problem before -  overall am loving release except for this issue.  Agree also that participants are just not going there in track 10 - I think their all pretty stuffed by that time too!

Feel horrible saying this but it's nice to know that someone else has had same problem ...

    Cheers,

    JB

Yeah I'm glad to hear it too.  I have loved this release but it's the first time I have gotten hurt from one.  I have been taking it very easy and am starting to heal so  since we have been doing the realease for almost 3 weeks now 6 of the songs are leaving and track 10 is one of them.

    Re: Injuries from BodyStep 76

No injuries, I've had one participant with a pulled calf muscle, but I'm pretty sure that was from tap downs and not the moonwalk.

I agree it's too repetitive though, far more so for the low option (4 knee repeater) people, WAY too many of them, I've encouraged pretty much all of my participants onto the moonwalk option because of that.

    Re: Injuries from BodyStep 76

I just did my training a month ago and sustained the same injury - while practising track 10 moonwalk!!!  I hope we all heal...and that I can do my video in time.  How long did it take you to recover?  What worked well?

    Re: Injuries from BodyStep 76

My instructor has never used the expression "moon walk". What are you referring to, which specific move in track 10? Huh?

One of our instructors used the cue "scissors".

see 2:22 :) moonwalk is an artificial name for it to fit that 'space' theme.

I miss bodystep.. I hurt my knee again so now i am forced to stay away from step for god knows how long.. :'(

Ah, the shuffle! (Why didn't I think of watching the sizzler again..?) Thanks.

I rarely do that option myself, afraid to slip or trip and get hurt. For me, this 10 is tough enough without the "moon walk"!

Sorry about your injuries people, be better soon!

    Re: Injuries from BodyStep 76

well I guess I must be lucky, been teaching step for 7 and a half years. the only injuries I can ever remember step causing me has been a calf muscle or ankle and those were minor.  The calf muscle was more related to footwear than anything else.  Moonwalks on the latest one didn't cause me any issues whatsoever.  Don't think I did all the moonwalks anyway.  Would do a few but always used to do a good half of the track with the repeater option as most people didn't like the moonwalks.  Certainly did them and let the members cut loose and did so a few times to, but as most people wouldn't do them I made sure they knew that was ok.
