    Mambo everywhere - not sure??

I'm just learning jam 50 and absolutely loving this release!

However I've got some reservations about the "mambo everywhere" - my jam class is quite new and has pretty low numbers - some weeks 10 or 12 but other weeks only 2 or 3.  I'm trying to build them up but that's a story for another post ...

In the meantime I'm not sure the mambo everywhere is really going to work with so few people, the whole "go and meet someone new" idea not really going to work and I think they may feel self consious being asked to move around the studio as they're rattling around in it anyway!

Any suggestions for how to carry this off, has anyone tried it in small classes?

    thanks guys Big Smile

    Hi Beth,

If you feel confident enough to jump off the stage and lead of your right foot try joining your crew on the floor, (thats if it doesn't scare them.)G's suggestion of cueing the class around the room ;face the wall, face the back etc is a great way to get them out of the comfort zone. Ease into it over the next few weeks and see how far you can get them out of their shells.

    good luck

The mambo everywhere is a bit of fun. i was in a Jam class friday night with only 6 members. the instructor jumped down off stage and joined us on the floor. We had a blast

You'd be surprised with less numbers people can be a little less inhibited as there aren't that many people watching what they are doing.

Try it out, if it doesn't fly with your members then just get them to mambo around in a circle. You never know what they'll do till you try.

     Best of Luck with it,

     Ben

Or try having them do it in a personal circle? I think the Mambo Everywhere! comes up three times at least, so you can push them a little further each time, maybe.

Re: Mambo everywhere - not sure??

I am the same I sometime only have 4 people. with the very first set I set it up, I take them around in little circle  then back the other way.

when we add it for the first time I just them get the foot work and they do not move it anywhere.

The second time I jump of the stage and go around saying hello to everyone and that gives them the idea they can go any where.

then it is the shimmy bit I stay on the floor with them and make them all come in close and we shimmy together (this does not work with a big class) this moves them again letting them know its okay to move around the room, so the next couple of times they are more comfortable to move around them room freely.

also when i teach it at night i turn the lights off and only have spotlights on (like yoga lights)  at that makes them feel heaps more comfrotable because altho they can still see, but not as well. So if you have that ability you could try that.

Also if you have a small class try and get there names before hand introduce yourself, that will also help them feel more comfrtoable.

I have the same issue sometimes....and if I get less than 10 people, I turn around and mambo with them.....that way its a little different but not awkward....

mmm i have to say, unless it's really packed, you just feel kinda like a tool doing the 'mambo everywhere'...
