Hello, I'm a participant and a big fan of BodyCombat. After reading a top trainer's comment recommending to use a video, I hurriedly made an appointment for a private lesson of my favorite BC instructor and prepared my video camera. As a rule, we cannot bring a video camera with us into the studio not to invade other participants' privacy. But at the private lesson in a small room, there is no problem as long as the instructor agrees. In our district, the lesson fee ranges from 18NZD to 30NZD per 30min and I like very much these kinds of lessons because they are so much effective and worthwhile.
Usually I focused on instructor's movement or explanation and I made an effort not to say a word or not to overlap instructor's images. But this time, target was me. After a pleasant lesson, the instructor asked me to give him the DVD which I intended to make, if I didn't mind. And I said "OK, if you need. How many discs?" But after that I had to change my mind.
To be honest, I was shocked and ashen with shame because the movie was completely different from what I had expected before. During the BC program in a studio, I usually watch the reflection in the mirror and check where my legs and fists are, how my corkscrew punch is, what my hair volume looks like, etc.
But participants would better know what their movements or postures look like from different viewpoints. As for me, the reckless movie through lens taught me how bad the supporting leg at roundhouse kick looked, the posture at Kata seemed so much unusual and my highest ESK was only towards shin...etc.In addition, I noticed I'd better wear a pair of long pants not a Bermudas, especially not with black socks. Otherwise I'd better my legs tanned in a machine equipped in our club.
The shocking movie etched my brain and I made up my mind to change the style, for example, raising the kicking leg to the level where I'd previously denied because I was not professional. Anyway, I've noticed that having correct image of what I looked like in BC movements through video camera could be a great motivation and inspired my challenging spirit toward higher level.
Lastly, I'm very lucky to have a chance finding top trainer's useful comment in this forum.I appreciate a lot.And I'd much more appreciate if somebody would be my friend because I don't have any friend in this forum yet.
