There'll be two tracks from Vive, two from Attack etc etc..

Given that we may make it a "day in the park" with a BBQ etc, I'd probably make my tracks ones with no equipment so we don't have to fuss with the balls and bands etc. As I'd like to keep it upbeat and fun, I was thinking of doing two warm-up tracks rather than a Tai-Chi or stretch.

Question: Which two tracks? I have all the releases from BV 2 onwards. Preferably two that were quite different would be best (eg.one with knee repeaters, one without.) I've got some ideas, but am interested to see what others would do...??

BodyVive medical question - female advice required

Hey Vivers!

I had one of my new members come up to me at the end of my class this week and ask me some questions about BodyVive. One of the questions she had was about the implications doing Vive during a menstrual cycle. Now I know this sounds completely stupid, and I do believe that there shouldn't be anything wrong with it, but being a male and all, I wasn't sure how to answer her question.

So what I was wondering from the female instructor population out there, is there anything particular that female members need to be aware of when doing Vive mid-cycle, or is there not really anything to worry about? Just so I know in case I get asked again.

A potentially embarrassing question, I know, but want to be absolutely sure.

Thanks guys

BodyVive training

I am headed to Vive training in 2 days. I'm already certified in Combat and Flow. Any tips for the training in this program? Thanks.

BODYVIVE™ 13 has a sporty feel with simple choreography that will make your class get the most out of their workout. Have fun with the new Boxing moves in Track 5 and look out for the new back exercise for GREAT POSTURE in Track 8. Play That Funky Music and build strong legs with the Squat & Hamstring Curl Combo in Track 2. Track 3 is a real classic – Earth, Wind & Fire’s September. Have fun with the Disco moves that will lift the intensity to new heights. Get ready to stride across the room in the empowering Track 4! The anthem No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) will push you through the Squat with VIVE™ ball throw. Extend and lengthen your body and enjoy the poses, before getting down with the Balance & Leg Strength exercises to Five’s If Ya Gettin’ Down in Track 7. The combination of one-legged balance work and upper body resistance will really challenge your class to push their limits. Track 9 is all about getting sexy hips! Push through the resistance of the VIVE™ tube to Justin Timberlake’s SexyBack. Lisa Stansfield’s classic This Is The Right Time will take you through the Ab Strength Track. Single and Double Leg Extensions are in the house! The options are there if you need them. Track 11 features Pushups – for the first time ever in a BODYVIVE™ release! Using the VIVE™ ball, you’ll work at your own intensity level. The Bow & Arrow using the VIVE™ tube will work your upper back and build a strong posture. Then Release & Restore to the beautiful words of Because You Loved Me.

Learning Choreography

I taught freestyle for 15 years and have been teaching Les Mills (Attack, Step and Pump) for the last 6 years. Trained on Bodyvive 11. Just launched BV 12.

I am very confident in my ability to learn choreography of all types however I find BV choreography very difficult to learn. Weird patterns... choruses have different moves thru out the song ... awkward transitions.....

Is anyone else struggling with this? I keep hoping I will get used to it but I am seriously considering not teaching Vive anymore - simply because of the time it takes to learn this one program. Pump, Attack and Step are a snap compared to Vive.

It was awesome! We had an okay turnout of 17. That was just as well as we only have enough equipment for 19 plus the 3 BV teachers. Had 4 BV virgins in class so it was all worth it to bring them into the fold. Two of them came to Monday nights class. We love BV converts.

One of the other Vive teachers works for Jockey and was able to get us matching purple tops and grey pants. We were the power of purple! Jockey donated purple shirts to give away in raffle. Everyone loves free stuff.

This was my first launch and so much fun. I goofed a little in strength 1 during the biceps work. Lost track of reps, but kept going with a smile and both handles the whole time! The swan stretch at the begining of track 12 kills my bad knee. I showed a modification with the knee bent to the side instead of straight back (90 degree angles). That went over well with the others who have knee issues.

We did a little advertising with the dark chocolate Hershey Kisses. They are wrapped in purple. I attached a little slip of paper (purple of course) with the date and time of launch. These were a big hit, especially with my three teenage boys at home who kept eating them while they helped me glue the paper on.

I would love to hear about your experiences with the new release. Thanks Paul T for sharing you first launch experience on this blog. Congrats to your success!!

Keep on Viving,

I would just like to say hello to you all, since this is my first post in this forum. I've been teaching BV since it's release here in Scandinavia (no. 3). We had our ups and downs with the program and lately it's going down. So hopefully with this new release (no. 12) things will change. This is what I always hope for, though.

We're three BV instructors at our gym, and all BV classes has been going down in numbers. I'm not sure what we're doing wrong, since the numbers have never been what we hoped. To give you a picture; we teach BodyPump, BodyAttack and BodyStep with numbers 25-50, but BV stay at like 3-10. I love Les Mills, and I love all the classes i teach, but it feels like fighting an uphill battle.

We believe in BodyVive! High Vive everyone!

Les Mills classes make up only 20% of the timetable (still 30-40 classes per week/7 programs) so we don't really relaunch due to it being a small part of the timetable. But at my other club, where I have been for 18 months, Les Mills is a much larger part of the timetable.

When I started there, the club had NO Les Mills programs, we now have Attack, Balance, Combat, Jam, Pump, Vive & RPM and host Quarterly Workshops every round. However, I've had so much work to do (the club was a hot mess when I took over lol...) I've never really had the time to plan a proper launch! UNTIL THIS WEEK!!!

Today we launched Body Vive 12 and had THE BEST TIME EVER!!!

We had a Rock Stars & Divas theme. I made a pair of gold sequin curtains which were hung across the studio doors and I bought a small piece of red carpet from a local discount store - thus our VIP entrance was complete! lol...

I managed to get the Personal Trainers to donate some free sessions and the spa donated some free neck/back/shoulder massages - each member received an envelope with a free day pass (worth £15) and then some of the envelopes had free PT sessions/massages in, so ever member got a prize for coming to the class!

I team taught with my other Vive instructor, I came dressed as a rock star in the clothes I normally wear for Body Jam and she came in a black/silver top as a diva!

The class normally gets around 20 people and this week we had 26! including our first MALE participant who LOVED it!!!

No real point to my story, other than the fact we had a great time and I felt like sharing!!!

Great to be teaching again after a 10 week break from teaching after having an operation on one of my legs! LOVE MY JOB!!! I shall add the pics to my profile when I get the chance.

Interactive Track

Our BV classes are doing well at our club and my classes have been expanding every week. The fitness levels in my classes are so broad so I make sure I offer every possible option available at least twice for every track. I always stress how it is ok to take the lower options especially when I see someone struggling to keep up.

Due to the advanced fitness level of some folks in my class, when I am teaching the interactive track and we are power walking, I tell them that if they feel they need more that they can do a light jog, but I personally never jog because I don't want to make the other participants feel their level isn't good enough.

Is this acceptable to offer this option to the participants if I continue to stay at the lower level and continue to offer even lower options? Thoughts?

Rise and fall of BodyVive

Hello Vivers Been a while since i've posted but im seriously getting to a point where i question if it is worth buying and learning every quarter!! :S

as some might know vive is my baby of the programs, it was what got me into instructing and for the last 18months it has felt like an uphill battle to keep this program in every gym ive worked at -to give you an idea of what i mean: if all the gyms kept all those vive's i had taught up untill now i'd be sitting on 11 classes of vive alone a week, im down to teaching just one class now which started with over 30 people to getting on average around 8-12.

reason, reasons i get told for this - in my permanent class (whos ages are around 40s-50s) it is not enough for them they need more cardio more movement etc.. (in which BV 12 is heading in their alley) HOWEVER i have another class (in which isnt mine permanently but i look after regularly when needed....also might add were the class that i started with when i was just a shadow etc..) is dropping off slowly their ages are 55+ and it is getting to fast for them, they're the class that prefer we stick to releases 4,5,6 (but i mean how much longer can we stay at those releases).

Now i know i;ve heard some people say oh its going great at our club (in which in most cases has been a new club that has just opened) not to sound like a downer on their excitement .. but .. most of the vive classes that first started out were on fire for the first few months getting full to a point where in some cases we needed to restrict numbers . . so far they have all followed the same suit 5-6months later their is a slight drop in numbers and then 6-8months later gyms start to threaten to remove it if not actually remove it!

What is everyone experiencing? i'd hate to think its just the area im in that vive doesnt work..... I'd hate to lose it but its getting to a point where u ask is it worth holding onto?

Thoughts Ideas or anything welcome!

Cheers Vivers

V

Mixing Releases

Does anyone mix tracks from various releases or do you stay with an entire release when teaching?
We have our "launch" classes on a Sunday. They are free to club members but we charge a fee ($5) for non-members. We have 3 BV teachers. This is my first launch and I'm looking forward to building some excitement for the new release. I'm lucky to have 2 seasoned teachers to help me. We could all use some good ideas.

I'm gutted you guys have all seen BV 12 and some of you are teaching it already - we're not getting to see it in the UK until 6th Sept at "Collossus" our UK SQW... even more gutted to say I won't be participating due to medical reasons - no teaching for at least a month :-( grrrrr!!!

Please tell me that there's not any weird sh*t in BV 12 like the gashness that was track 9 in BV11 lol... I agree with the posts in the other threads - that's never gonna see the light of day in my classes again! But I LOVED the rest of BV11

Same direction...

Just wondering...some participants have asked me why we do the knee repeaters to the right side only in track 5 of release 10 (Born to be wild). I have a feeling this happens in one or two other tracks across the releases, but not sure.

I didn't know what to tell them and said I would consult my learned colleagues (that would be YOU guys as I don't exactly have Susan Trainor on speed dial!) So...can anyone enlighten me?? To put it in perspective-they aren't overly concerned and don't feel they are in danger of hobbling lop-sided out of the class. Just mildly curious, as the golden rule has always been "do to one side as you do to the other."

Cheers all and best of luck with BV12

I finally get to attend a BV initial training session in a few weeks. I can't wait to become part of the brilliant Les Mills family! I am really nervous for the training however. Any tips or hints for surviving the weekend?

I have been attending as many BV classes as possible. I've also been trying to learn some of the old tracks.

I'm so excited to become a better instructor and rub shoulders with the best in the fitness industry. Were any of you anxious about the intial training?

Nervous in Wisconsin,

All good news on that front...

I've been cleared to teach, which means I'm gonna be team-teaching for the next few weeks... and what's good about that... I'm team-teaching with my Vive trainer!

We trained on BV11. I got Dance Cardio, Bicep Strength and Abs for my three tracks. I *love* that Dance Cardio track!

Our trainer gave us a sneak peek at the BV12 DVD... I was in Auckland for the filming for it, so watching it all over again was awesome! And I can't wait for that Dance Cardio either! :D

Does this Program know where its going, or who it targets??

Hey all,

Just wondering here... Loads of factors spinning around in my mind over this, heres the story...

I started on BV1, at that point it was a slightly different format, targetted at the Baby Boomers, etc etc... As the releases evolved we moved through a slightly new format, a slight rebranding which has brought more of the mainstream gym goer into the classes. Currently we are looking at a 12 track format, the first 5 tracks cardio, then Tai Chi, functional strength, core etc...

We now have release 11, the work rate is a world away from the early releases. That said at times i do wonder where this is going, what is the target market exactly, and how do you approach the routing including the choreo. Heres my problem, basically starts with track 2 Connect and go. If the market is still the elder, lower intensity market, then I dont quite get why the choreo is so complicated and at times unintuitive. The phrasing clearly is at odds with the song in terms of choreo, and makes the whole thing seem exceedingly overworked, when something possibly a little simpler would start to raise the heart rate in a far more efficient fashion. Its not just this release there are some very bitty C&G tracks over the history so far.

Cardio progresses, then we get to the Tai Chi and Yoga, its almost as though the brakes go screeching on in the class and the energy level visibally drops. I am not sure this track shouldnt now be replaced by another cardio track, or if it were to carry on, perhaps move it to just before the cooldown? The balance and leg strength again seems another legacy of the 'older generation' roots, could we, should we consider a more structured leg conditioning track sequence, also the looking at a structured upper body workout which includes both biceps and triceps, as well as shoulders in each release?

Not sure, I have at 1 of the 2 gyms I teach the program at the largest class of all the formats running there, so things aren that bad, that said I feel there is room for improvement particularily in maintaining the flow of energy throughout the whole class!!

Body Vive are you fish or fowl? What is your target market? Does the structure of the class, or the choreo contained within the tracks really reflect that?
