To run marathons VS Les Mills training

Hi there,

I'm certified rpm instructor and I enjoy a lot running and reaching high personal challenges. That's why I started in 2008 to train very hard to run a marathon in less than 4h. I did the 1st one in 2008 in 3h42 and another one in 2009 in 3h30. I had 3 to 4 training sessions /week during 4 months + my usual 3 to 4 rpm classes.

For April 2010, I'd like to go for the 3h15 or 3h20... That means a very hard training (I already started). I changed the frequency of my rpm classes (I actually have only 1 per week)

My question is: is there any information available about how Les Mills classes can help in the preparation of a marathon? Is Bodypump helping? ... Balance, ... ?

Assessor application question

I noticed when applying to be video assessor, it states "Complete a video self assessment of the most current release..."

So my question! .. Do they want a video of me assessing my own class?    In the past I believe the person applying would video tape another instructors class and assess it.

Can anyone clarify this for me??

Do Les Mills pay attention to the ' submit a song' page?

The reason I am asking this is because I went throught the submit a song page for Body Combat and there are 2 songs that have already been used in BC releases - yet people are still voting for them or submitting them?

one was 'Jump' - Van Halen and that was used in BC35 and one was 'The Final Countdown' - Europe and that was used in BC29??

admittidly the versions used in those release are remixed and not the 100% original version, but once a song has been used in a release you shouldn't be able to submit it....

for instance, it I went to submit 'Burn it to the ground' from Nickelback for Body Combat - a message should come up saying 'Sorry - that song has already been used in Body Combat, please choose another song' or words to that effect.

Does anyone know how the submit a song page actually works??

Leaving Classes Early

Hello,

Conducting some research at the moment and I'm keen on gauging other clubs group fitness rules.

Does your club have any rules in place to say particpants can't leave cardio group fitness classes after the workout has commenced? (i.e. exiting a class after the cardio tracks and just before the lower/body conditioning track and the cooldown).

Advice for a Scot travelling to Oz for work

Hi All,

Can fellow Aussies out there give me some advice? My workmate is heading to Oz next year to travel and work. Although I am an Aussie, I've never actually worked in the fitness industry back home, therefore I don't know how UK qualifications match up to Aussie ones. My workmate has the following qualifications:- YMCA Exercise to Music, Level 2 Gym Instructor, BodyBalance Instructor, and Level 2 Swimming Teacher.

How do you guys feel her chances of gaining full-time employment are (or any type of employment) in the Fitness Industry over there?

instructors facing the mirrors

I know some instructors turn around during BA or BC or BS once in a while to make sure the participants get the movements, but there are quite a few - almost all of them whom I know personally - who face the mirror during the ENTIRE class.... What do you do? Even the group exercise director at one of the locations I teach faces the mirror and advises new LM hires to do the same. So frustrating because the members are asking me (a new LM hire at a couple of particular clubs) to turn around.... If we are so passionate about the program, why is it so hard to follow the LM protocol...?

Fat free (almost) Holiday cookie recipe

I gave out homemade cookies to my class on Halloween, and I've been having people both in my class and on LM forum, ask for the recipe.

These are pumpkin-cranberry cookies, 40 cal and only 1g of fat each. My class raved about them so I thought I'd share. Let me know if anyone would like the recipe and your email address.

I am extremely deperate for some les mills classes in Vancouver...

I know GoodLife Fitness has the exclusive right to LM in Canada,

but their nearest club is located too far from Vancouver.

When will LM be established in Vancouver (actually IN the Vancouver area)???!?!?!?!

I am dressing up as a zombie tomorrow night and am just after some makeup ideas. Just wondered if any of you have dressed up as a zombie before and if so how you did your makeup?

Identifiers in forums for instructors/participants

Hi! I love these forums, but we're getting a little overrun with unqualified advice about many important topics. To the mods/website admins: Can we have some sort of identifier under the posters name (where the little guy holding the weights and raising his arm is now) showing if they are an instructor or participant? Maybe a logo of the programs they are CERTIFIED to teach (vs. registered, if you know what I mean). Maybe we could have a "superlogo" for PDs?

I know I always look at a person's profile when getting advice on something to see if they seem like they would have a good base of knowledge on the topic at hand, but I would bet a lot of people (esp newbs) don't think of that.

We all want to help, and there is a lot of GREAT information out there, but there's also a lot of misquoting, obsolete info, and just plain wrong advice being given - usually by people unqualified to do so. It seems like it would easy to show the "Certified to Teach" thing on our profiles under our name in the forums.

Les Mills programs in the Caribbean

Hi, group fitness is a big big thing in many caribbean countries and i have always wondered if Les Mills' execs ever thought about launching in any of the Caribbean Islands.

I am from Barbados and i started my Group Fitness Career there and classes are always packed, i know they would just love the Les Mills programs.

just a thought...new opportunities, another market or niche to tap into.

Funny member question

There is a woman who has been regularly taking my Combat & Flow classes. Today she asked me if my microphone tells me what to do - she thought perhaps it was somehow linked to the music, and there was a small voice that pre-cues the moves to me, and I in turn cue the class. She thought this was part of what Les Mills is, are these special mics, and the idea occurred to her because she was thinking that memorizing that much choreography must be very time-consuming and nearly impossible. She was rather staggered that we do indeed memorize ALL of the choreography. Then she asked if I've ever forgotten a move before - I said, watch for the deer-in-headlights look on my face and you'll know!

I've heard a wide range of questions from members about Les Mills over the years, but this one is a new one. I just wanted to share!
