    HELP!!

I live in Wichita Falls, TX.  I have been prodding the YMCA branch here in town to get Body Pump. They agreed to Body Combat about 3 months ago and it is a success. We would like them to now get Body Pump. We have agreed to donate a weight set for 20 and have evne agreed to pay a bit more on our fee to get it here. They are on the cusp of getting it, they just need a bit more intelligence on the subject. Does anyone have a name of someone I can talk to to help our cause. This wed Sept 19th there is an advisary meeting there and I have been invited to pitch this idea again. Body Pump is new to this town of 100,000...(we are slow to accept new ideas).  Can someone give me a name, advice, suggestions, influence, grace, miracles, magic? Wed is going to be a huge day and I need help!

    Re: HELP!!

This isn't the agency that serves Texas, but:

Also, go to the Les Mills tab at the top of their main page (http://scwfitness.com/index.php?story=2119&fmt=) to see other YMCA-specific pages on their site.

    Re: HELP!!

Hi cutawooda, I would have loved to help you out personally but unfortunately I live here in the UK and nearest I’ve been to Wichita Falls, TX was a few years back when I was visiting Dallas and Fort Worth (and wondered why motorists were flashing their headlights at me when I was driving just myself along your lovely HOV freeways – I did find out soon afterwards) Wink.

Luckily within a 10 mile radius of where I live on the Hampshire/Berkshire border we have at least 15 clubs that all teach BodyPUMP. My own local club where I teach is a Platinum Les Mills Club (teaching BodyPump, Attack, Balance, Combat & Vive - and that’s just a ‘small town’ with a population of  about 12,000). My local club kicked-off with BodyPUMP way back in 1994 and then Combat a couple of years later. In fact with Combat our forward thinking Studio Co-ordinator managed to get a guy called “Dan Cohen” along to give not one but ‘two’ Master Classes - ‘before’ him and Rachael ended up in New Zealand.

On that note, I was wondering whether it might be worth getting in contact with Les Mills themselves and seeing if they’ve got any ‘Master’ BodyPUMP instructors, not too far away from you, who would be willing to come to your club and give a ‘Master Class’ together with a 30 min or so talk on why BP is so good for you (worth a try as if you don’t ask, you won’t get).

Also on the latest BP83 DVD they’ve got an Education piece by a Dr. Jinger S. Gottschall (who’s a Les Mills instructor and Professor of Kinesiology (the scientific study of human movement) at Pennsylvania State University) who’s done a study (via a 30 week program) on the effects LM classes (including two BodyPUMP classes per week) have on beginners, and taking 25 healthy but non-active adults between the ages of 25 to 30, came up with some truly incredible results (like 57% increased heart & lung efficiency, 1.8Kg (4lbs) muscle mass gained, 5.6Kg (12.5lbs) body fat lost, cholesterol decreased by 16% etc.). In fact if you type dr. jinger gottschall les mills into Google Search and click the second hit Our Science – Les Mills , you can see the self same Get Fit Together video, and it’s pretty convincing stuff. Now if you can get those sort of messages over to your club, I reckon you’ll be onto a sure fire winner cutawooda. Big Smile

Best of luck for Wednesday cutawooda and soooo hope you get BodyPUMP classes ‘pumping’ at your YMCA club there in Wichita Falls – you’ll have to let us all know how it goes Smile.
