BODYCOMBAT VS TAEBO (ADVICE PLEASE :)

    hey,

my gym doesn't have bc (a shame - i really like the look of that one!) - but i do have a video of good ol billy blanks - tae bo video.  BC does look rather similar....

    thoughts?

ps - i am planning to do one BP (have done one and really enjoyed), and one fitball (can't do 2 BP due to scheduling issues; fitball is a killer anyway - in a good way), and then try to get in a taebo video at home - it's around 45 minutes and makes me quite sweaty and sore :)

    whaddya rekon?  same dif?

I don't really want to go into the whole insert-other-kickboxing-class vs body combat arguments. Body Combat has a wide mix of music genres, authentic martial art moves (just check the "Learn The Moves" section for BC on this site), classes last for about 50-55 minutes, instructor there always watching out for participants to improve their techniques, new releases every 3 months, instructors have a pool of 35 releases to choose from (and choose tracks from different releases to use in class).

Obviously with taebo, watching it at home, you don't get the group atmosphere where you might be inspired to push harder, get no feedback on your technique (just pray your copying it right from the tape), limited to what videos you have brought (which I guess you will get bored quickly doing the same videos over and over), from what I can see Taebo should be really be compared with Body Attack as far as aerobic movements are concerned.

Write in a suggestion box, or talk to whoever is in charge of scheduling classes (GFM?) about starting BC.

Well if its between doing a tae bo video and sitting on your bum doing nothing, then go for the tae bo, it can't do any harm.  So it may not be like combat (im not sure iv never seen it before), its still better than nothing, so considering its not actually possible for you to do combat, you might as well do it any way cos its probably still a good workout.

    Happing tae bo-ing!

Hi Tracyred - I have Taebo Flex and Billy Blanks Bootcamp dvd's at home. When I couldn't get to a BC class before I became an instructor - I use to do the Taebo flex workout. It took about 45 min from memory. It gives you a different work out than a BC class, but very enjoyable all the same and I still got sweaty and a good workout.

It's a shame your gym doesn't have BC. I would much prefer to a BC workout than the Taebo one. But it's good to mix the Taebo classes at home up with other training workouts, as this will help your body change and work harder. If you did the same Taebo tape over and over again - your body will just get used to it and not much change will happen from there.

I hope you get Body Combat at your gym real soon and stick to Body Pump if you can and fitball sounds great too.

Best of fitness fun to you:)

'Now, who wants to do it all over again?'

Well, Tae Bo is definitely not Combat, but you gotta do what you can do.  I use to do Tae Bo back in the day, way back when.  And I remember it being a pretty good workout and pretty fun.  And it is really a good basic step towards Combat in some way, so at least you will have some of the basic moves down if Combat ever comes to your gy.  Glad that you do get a taste of Les Mills with PUMP.  Good luck.

thanks, all - yeah my gym seems to have lots of LM classes, but not BC - strange.  and sad, really, because i'm quite nervous to try step and attack, not being very coordinated, and worried i'd have to buy $150 cross trainers as well :)

ah well, will stick to my pump and fitball with cardio and billy!

    thanks!
