    Length of the Cardio Segment

    Hey all!

My classes are enjoying the increased intensity that came with release #5 and participation has grown, however, they keep asking for a longer cardio segment.  More people tell me they would come if I could give them more cardio.  Is anyone else getting this request?

I adore this program and love how it has evolved.  Susan Trainor is headed in the right direction.

Yes, I have also gotten requests that we up the intensity a bit for the class.  I try to explain that we dont desing the class, that someone else does.  So if Les Mills could make it a little more intense in the cardio with lower options, I think everyone would be happy.

Re: Length of the Cardio Segment

I guess it would be nice to have another cardio track, but then, what would you leave out?

Obviously at the moment there's more "heart fitness" than "functional strength" or "core and restore", so that would mean reducing either of these further...

I guess if the balance/leg strength track had a few more squats/lunges with balance work at the end of the track it could lower the heart rate in the way the tai chi and yoga track is meant to, so you could lose that...

From there you could move into the functional strength tracks, starting with hips followed by upper body...

Maybe then you could have a brief Tai Chi/Yoga track to calm every one down and transition to the floor for the final section. Abs and Back could be combined into a longer "core" track before the final Release and Restore track...

If sticking with the 12 track format, this would give you 6 cardio tracks, 3 functional strength and 3 core and restore and each type of track would be together rather than the tai chi/yoga track being stuck in the middle...

I guess only time will tell, the program is still young and finding it's feet and it's market, so we'll all just have to wait and see...

But for now, all I know is that I and my participants love it, so Susan and the team are doing a pretty good job!

I agree with you 100% Paul.  I don't want to lose any tracks... just need 5-10 more minutes of heart health.  My students enjoy the current intensity... They just want it to last a little longer.

We'll see how this program develops!  I absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Re: Length of the Cardio Segment

We have been asked by members since day one for more cardio.

I think track 6 can go, and add another cardio in it's place, perhaps a bit less intense than track 5, and make track 7 a combo of tai chi and balance.

Currently, there is too sharp of a change in HR from track 5 to 6, imho.

i think maybe that if they want more cardio they could try an attack class and take the lower impact options, maybe the marketing isnt quite right and isnt targeting the right people?

Re: Length of the Cardio Segment

    Dear all,

I have a idea for this question.

It maybe a good way to provide one more bonus track in cardio, bnlance and strength

Instructors all of the world can add one more track to satsify menbers' need in class.

Something else, I like Body Vive 6. Susan, Maureen , Pete are great presenters!

And Dr. David is a nice IMT.Embarrassed

Yes, this is what I have been doing for release 5. I add in "It's Raining Men"( from release 4)  right before "Hero."  They are happy with that little extra cardio.

Re: Length of the Cardio Segment

So, Janet, did you take something out?  Are you sure that's a good idea?  I can finish my class "as is" in 55 minutes easily but adding in would make it too long.  (we have BP right after it usually and you know how pumpers are about setting up equipment!)

One time I tweaked the cardio like that for a class that I thought could handle it (I subbed for a Zumba class)...it was very clear after "Hero" and into the "extra" fitness cardio song ("Knock on Wood") that they were struggling.  That's the only and last time I will ever try to deviate from the BV format.

I do think the newer releases are slowly getting it more right...I just hope we can overcome the damage already done.

Re: Length of the Cardio Segment

With the increased intensity in BV 7 - your participants will be satisfied.  They will be puffing like a steam train and welcome the change of pace.  There are still lots of lighter options for the not so fit so don't worry.  Everyone is catered for.
