    Line Dancing Frustration

My participants (and the other instructors are having the same problem at our club) are having a hard time following the "square!"  I have reversed my reversed version and came on the floor do they don't have to mirror me and they still had trouble.  we preview it and they all nod like they get it and then when we actually do it they go the wrong way and bump into each other.  It's very frustrating to me because they love the song as do I.  What more can I do?

It's all about the cueing, I found if you say, "3 grapevines side to side, turn face ??(eg, reception) come to me, grapevine 3 times, turn to back, 3 grapevines, turn face ??(eg windows), 3 grapevines, turn face the front or me, 4 grapevines. Done.  Maybe it helps when you have seasoned members used to freestyle aerobics.

     Good luck!

Agree 100% with Connie!  I was really worried about this at first (because I got confused too!!) our BV team presented it beautifully and the classes are having no problem.  Before I start the track, I tell them that we will be going in a box and give them the "landmarks" to be looking for..."side mirror, face back of room, windows, me"

I admit that this was the track that I did not like at first (country music in aerobics=yuck) but it has ended up being loads of fun.  I just ham it up!

I do cue very strongly in this track but yes I still have people crashing into others because they are going in the wrong direction.  Its just one of those things for people who haven't done much group fitness before.  It takes them a while to pick up the moves even when you cue it well and preview.  I have the same problem the first couple of step classes on a new release.

    Re: Line Dancing Frustration

Hi, as soon as i worked out you keep going either left or right (whatever direction you would have been going if you were not grapevineing in a square) I had it sussed.  So...you grapevine L/R/L, turn 90 deg counter clockwise, then grapevine R, so basically you have gone L/R/L/R, and just added a turn part way thru.  I find then I'm only having to concentrate on going L or R, and the rest falls into place.  The trick is not thinking too hard (much like the mambo in the latest release).  Hope this helps!
