I'm thinking about becoming a combat instructor, but I have a problem.

I sometimes get dizzy when I do the stomp jab in a circle.  Should this prevent me from becoming an instructor?  Does anyone have any tips to prevent the dizziness?

Everybody get's dizzy, it's normal. Just means you're really getting into it.

Practice makes perfect.  The spin doesn't appear very often so you'll be safe.  I'm sure that there are none spinning versions you can do.  Enjoy your training.

Just on this topic, what about instructors who wear glasses? Contact lenses perhaps? I'm thinking of doing the instructor module, but have this 'glasses' thing. Would love some advice :)

    Thanks!

I wear contacts, not an issue. Haven't taught in glasses but I've managed to teach RPM in glasses, so if I can do that, I imagine BC would be okay.

I get dizzy too. This is only the 2nd release to have that move since I trained on 29, so no worries.

I cue as an option to just do the stomp jab without going in circles, and if for some reason I am feeling extra-worse, then I take that option myself.

Im not an instructor, but do wear my glasses constantly, so dont see it being a prob if you want to do instructor training,   I'm presuming you wear your glasses to classes just now, and if they aint causing you any probs there, dont see why they would when instructing.  Go for it and good luck

I wear glasses during almost every classes that I attend, not much of an issue. But sometimes I do accidentally hook myself at the side of the frame Stick out tongue

However, during the Bc instructor course, I wore contact lens, just to play safe and make sure I dun move my hands to my face to push my glasses, cos that isnt supposed to be part of the chereo! Dog

My instructor has recently started wearing glasses in the last few classes.  They've never seemed to cause her any trouble.

I can't wear glasses to teach, because I end up sweating all over them by about Track 2. But, that's just me, and if you aren't as sweaty as I am, you might be okay.

One thing to consider is that some microphone headsets don't fit as well over the ears if you have glasses on.

Thanks for the advice :) (and everyone else who replied) I'm pretty much like that too. Looks like contacts are the way to go!

I wear contact lenses when instructing once the back row became a bit of a blur.

Watch the dizzy thing as I have had a couple of members with vertigo who can't do the stomp in a circle ,oves.

I think the dizziness is not a normal thing, for instructors, nor participants. It can usually easily be solved by focussing on a spot in the direction you are hitting and good strong footwork. It's very similar to "spotting" while making a turn in dancing. Of course some people do have medical problems with their balance and can get dizzy easier, but for someone without medical indication, it should not happen if they get proper instruction and technique.

    Good luck!

hmmm, I think blood pressure variation can make a huge difference to dizziness, without needing a doctor.

I sweat like crazy and I solved the sweat-on-the-glasses problem by buying a headband - made all the difference!
