    AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

    Hello everyone

I'am so pissed right now, so I wanna tell you why.

Yesterday I received a letter from my gym manager that we are going to have 50 minutes lessons of all les mills lessons in 2 weeks. This is because we can have A BIG OPENING and a BIG ENDING (interaction with your members before and after class). Ok I can understand that it is important to chat with your members but you can also say that the instructor has to be 15 minutes before class and 15 minutes after class in the gym and being available for the members (I do anyways). The second reason is that we can mop the floor after class. (ok first I am not a cleaner, I teach for fun, second How can I be available after class when I first have to mop the floor? Members will leave and not wait for me)
Also the members of the next class don't have to wait for the next class, I can understand that, but on fridays there is no other class after mine.....

The second thing about the 50 minutes format for me is that I can't decide which track is skipped, somebody else is doing that for us. They won't tell us which one from the beginning, so I have to learn 10 tracks and one of them is skipped. Lot of effort for nothing.
Ok Les mills. Is there a rule of which track must be skipped at the 50 minutes format? I can remember in my manual that there is a 45 minutes class where track 2 and 9 are skipped. How can I give a good class with maybe an important song skipped for the workout? Always skipping the same song isn't fun anymore.

So This is what I wanted to say. Saturday we have a team meeting with al our instructuers, so any arguments of not doing a 50 minutes class are welcome... (probably it don't give a ****)

    Hi!

What about mixing in some shorter tracks? Then you would probably not need to skip any tracks. There was a big thread about "shortest and longest BC mix". Would it help? Just an idea...

    Re: AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

The 45 minute format is - miss out track 5 (not 2) and Track 9. So why not just miss out Track 9 - which is conditioning and not necessarily showcasing the essence of the programme?

    Re: AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

We first have to teach the whole new release for two months and then we are allowed to mix. So the first 2 months is the problem. In the new release I really like track 5 so I won't skip that one. Track 9 is in my opinion also a good track because most people always request a good track 9.

The problem of skipping a track is that we as instructor can't decide which one has to go but somebody else is deciding for us. AAAARGHHH

i would say drop track 6!

the thing is you need to go from release to release case as previously total time of the classes have varied quite a lot

    Re: AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

They want you to mop the floor? I can see how that would prohibit any quality interaction with your participants.  I don't think that cutting the class short so someone can mop is very fair to both instructors and students. AND - personally - I don't do floors that aren't my own. I don't mind picking up after members if they leave weights and steps in Pump because they had to leave early, or running someone's water bottle to them if they left it behind, but I would disagree that it's our responsibility to start mopping floors.

I'd suggest not dropping any tracks and just spend more time selecting your tracks to come in under the 50 mins.

He Mike, I know it sucks to have 50 minute format... We have the same problem at fitness first. We do the following: one week we do number 5 and the other week number 9. And if there is no class after yours, why don't you just ignore the rule!!! Who is going to notice, and your participants will stay happy! Plenty of time to chat and to mop the floor right? Good luck!

tell your members to ALL complain.  ef everyone does it then the gym will have to listen.

    Re: AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

if you have the same group of people every time ( the mafia as i like to call them ) you could the class back to back as normally most releases are 52 minutes or so and not a full 60 minutes then mop the floor quickly in 2 minutes : ) but this would be a problem if you had many beginners.

Honestly just present your case to management ask them to step into a member's shoes for a change and see how they like someone ruin their workout.

The best thing to do is to probably choose shorter tracks when there is another class after you. Recently they're making track 8 longer ( about 6 minutes ) choose something shorter ( Believe in Me BC 34 is short but a killer), when there's nobody after you do whatever you want. When I'm the last class for the day I usually add bonus tracks at the end.

Anywayz hope you can get through to your manager!

    Re: AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

I'm just shocked an instructor has to clean the floor!! Are there other gyms you can teach at where you're not treated as a janitor??

    Re: AAAARRRGGGHHHH 50 minutes format

Ok I am not happy to clean the floor afterwards but I can understand why. I sweat a lot en there is even sometimes a pile of water on the floor. Right after my lesson there is a pilates lesson where people have to lay done on the floor. So just A quick swiffer and much more hygienic.

I agree I am not an janitor so we will see how it go's, right now they put a swiffer in the classroom and everytime the swiffer dissapears.... :-)

Why not just do the 45 minute format and dawdle a little... ;)
