My thoughts on 50:
Now... i have only taught this a couple of times so my opinion is based on kinda first impression so conclusion to follow:
Without getting to carried away with BJ50 i can honestly say that i really do think the Jam team has FINALLY got it right in terms of balance.
There is no need to try and make it extra special or add your own bits to keep the class from getting bored it all seems to be in place.
BJ50 starts with a fantastic warm up and isolation track that actually makes you feel like your dancing
and grooving with some great rhythms.
The mambo section is probably the only section that i think people will get bored quickly as there are not enough + options but the music choice is excellent and it is very up-lifting and a great CV workout.
The greatest thing about this release by a MILE is the cardio funk, it is soooo good members just cant get enough and the first few times i have taught this i could hardly talk at the same time as it is so tough CV wise.
The recovery is super cool and the second block is off the wall crazy but with enough options for everyone to be happy.
The greatest thing about this release is the fact that the base is hard enough to keep people interested for 5 weeks then you can add your plus options which was always the way it should work. But not only do we get plus options we get some friken awesome breakout chorey that the class will be drooling over. The presenters on the dvd were *** hot and loved all the add-ons that were choreographed. The educational is superb as its so easy to follow.
My class feel like they are dancing, i mean real dancing (not endless step touch and hand claps) and the instructors feel like they have some great moves to learn, practice and get better and better over the quarter. Great music choice throughout the whole of this release...awesome.
Two minor points though...i think newbies may find the ‘3 times’ cue at the start of the mambo confusing ‘cut it in half’ would be easier to understand.
I also think the ‘mambo everywhere’ is a little stupid, its ok like ‘g’ said if its in a studio like his but the reality is that numbers will be from anything from 5-40 and it just don’t work with small numbers(as a one off then yeah but not long term)
Also...the star cloth at the back, can you put some star cloth on the ceiling above the stage as the ceiling lets the ‘set’ down and please tidy up the ends of the star cloth at the back, hehe.
All in all an amazing release with fantastic options, can we please have the chorey at this level all the time especially the cardio-funk as this is the best block we have done since G took over....INSANE... IMO!!

I agree, I only wish I would be teaching this, but alas no class of my own. Quick question: am I the only one getting an awful calf burn from doing the shabam shabam when it's the base option? I can do the + option far more easily ( the super quick ones). How are y'all finding the way into nailing that step? I may be doing it right, but it doesn't feel good.

Re: Rockets review of BJ50
I'm a huge Jam fan... and... with each release I'm so pleasantly surprised by the novelties, the combination of music, different styles... like the industrial rock in BJ 45, the Jive in 48... the second block in 49... Each time there is something so fantastic, so creative.
Anyways... I could freely say that BJ 50 is my favourite release so far (well, going back to bj35, that is)... First of, I admit, I really like "I know u want me" and "75, brazil street" so the mambo choreo is ... enjoyable music wise. Love the choreo as well.
Cardio funk - yes, BEST EVER. Undoubtedly. I go crazy when I hear the begining, I LOVE the moves, the feel of it... it's fantastic.
Music choice in the second block is amazing. I don't know why, but I think Finally is insane, what a cool choice.
Go Mr. G Genious!

Re: Rockets review of BJ50
For me, BJ50, I'll admit, when I saw it, I didn't like it. It's still not one of my favourites, though I thoroughly enjoy the Cardio Funk block (BUT, it is hard on my ankles!). Mambo Everywhere... I've done it in classes of 100 people, 40 people, 20 people and 10 people, and the only thing that made it work was the willingness of the participants to go crazy. The class of 10 people went more mad with the mambo everywhere than the class of 20 - I view it as just breaking free, like you are in a night club, no rules, no boundaries - I sometimes close my eyes when I do it but then I open them quickly again for fear that I might bump into a pole or something ahaahahh My thoughts are that it does depend on how inhibited your members feel.
As for the star cloth backdrop... that's a great point, though man, it takes them damn forever to put the cloth up on the back wall of the stage, we get so impatient waiting for them to put it up at the filmings; riots would probably break out if we had to wait while they put it up on the ceiling also! That being said, it would look great on the DVDs, but I reckon this would have to be something the filming production team would have to talk to with the program directors and presenting team about as they would need to put it up once and have all of the releases filmed on that day using the backdrop, otherwise it really would take too long. BJ50 *still* isn't a release I like as much as other releases, but that's solely my personal preference. I enjoy BJ51 much more to this release, though still see that BJ50 is definitely a goodun

Thats just teasing us about BJ51
The mambo everywhere again is down to participants your correct. Its not really that much of an issue as i use it as a bit of recovery and kind of feel free to get a 47 kinda feel goin on.
I cant work out something about the housetap cus in the educational G does single, single double and one of the double crosses the back foot but not so in the dvd...i tried it crpssing the other night and it felt and looked wicked so ill stick with that!
The star cloth is funny cus on the dvd, when they add the smoke i thought i was having a shroom trip cus it goes all crazy hazey!
It would look great on the ceiling though and would love to see some rear projection . Imagine they could make it really dark and then rear project the music videos and put some product placement on it and get paid for it!!

My calves also burn like hell after the shabam shabam buildup, especially the first few times I did this release. Also... shoulder agony!! But that's probably caused by the Tribal House...
But to get back on subject: I agree with a lot of the points you guys raised. BJ50 is a good, fun release that will keep me entertained for weeks. The + options in the Cardiofunk and Tribal House will be a real challenge for my participants, cardiowise as well as choreowise.
But I agree with Marshy, BJ50's good, but BJ51... Amazing!

May be its a tech thing, have you shabamed before? I have not had one person complain about burning calves? Have you watched G do it in the tech session?

Oh, teasing us on BJ51 is not nice...
About BJ50, it's my favourite since then. I love the tracks 4 and 8. The music on the cool down is nice too.

I always experience some degree of muscle discomfort when I'm starting to teach new releases (don't you? ) I'm sure this one's no different...

Re: Rockets review of BJ50
I agree that teasing is not nice... Rose has been telling me everyday since friggin august how amazing BJ 51 is!
But on subject: I find this a fantastic release, with a lot of depth in the choreo and music. cant wait to start dropping the + options in a few weeks! I felt my calves after the first times doing this one, but it's nothing compared to the soreness in my upperbody after going crazy in the tribular house... Man, I felt that for three days!!

Re: Rockets review of BJ50
I feel it in the calves and a little in the arch of my foot. It's probably b/c it is new and not a step I tend to do normally when dancing. It's fine when I wok through it in the tech section with G but I dunno, it doesn't feel fun. It may be like the 'house knees' which felt stupid for a long time. Like I said, any tips from other folks on the feel of the step or where you initiate it from are welcomed; I hate "not getting" a step!

Hy Shim, you will get it and yeah it feels a bit goofy to start but like always it will just click. Instead of the second bounce being a 'hop' focus just on sliding that back heel back, hope that helps?

Re: Rockets review of BJ50
Nice walk through on the jammin 50. Have missed the review for the past few releases....glad you're back at it, buddy.
Can't decide which I like better: Cardio Funk because of "It takes 2 to make things alright" being in the mix....or that smokin "Suburban Knights". I sometimes listen to that just to listen to it, not even for practice. And "Finally" was great the first time I heard it....and now the umpteenth time. For me this mix of music is the best of any release I've heard.

well said Bob,it is a great release and membrs are loving cardio funk. The second half is great as well but the cardio funk tips it with me,i could hardly talk when teaching it it was so hard CV wise..perfect :) I still think the second half needs breaking up a bit like the first half, let me know how you get on.
