    What does it take?

Hi there, I'm new here so please put up with my amateur questions!

I've been free-style stepping for many years in NZ and have moved to London 5 months ago and have joined a Les Mills ápproved' gym (if that is the right word) and I am totally in love with BodyStep!  I love free-style Step anyway, but I am totally in LOVE with BodyStep.  Which leads to my question, what does it take to become an awesome BodyStep instructor?  I have a full-time job as an accountant (I can see the cringes!) but would love to spice up my life by becoming a BodyStep instructor on a part-time basis.  But I'm slightly worried that I'm not cut out for it, I've never been good in front of a crowd, all I can offer is my passion but is that enough?  I know as a participant that there are good instructors, but the superb out of this world instructors (like Lee Hopkins if anyone knows him) are ones that motivate you to work harder and regret that the hour is up!

I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

    BodyStep rocks!!

    Re: What does it take?

Go for it! you have the passion there and thats all you need to get started! Im not a full time instructor either, i teach my 3 programs step/jam/vive on part time basis as im studying fulltime and working in another job.

Becoming a great instructor comes with time, some a more naturals than others and might pick it up quicker but that doesnt mean that those that might take longer arent great. It all comes with experience - Basically Dont stress the what ifs or stuff afterwards (i.e motivating, teaching in front of crowds etc..) If you love the program GO FOR IT, and the rest will fall into place.

    Good luck

any other questions always ask! :)

    Re: What does it take?

Yes you should do it! I just done my BS module training in Oct, was lots of fun & hard work, but trust me, it’s worth it. I never torch before & certainly get nervous in the crowd, its all come with lots of practice, eg. Listen the tracks in the car & practice & talk; one instructor said to me, "you've got  the move just need to learn “how to talk”, I started to shadow on the stage with other instructors, it feel great on the stage, tonight will be my 1st time teach a track in the class! So looking forward to it.

I work full time as well, but don’t think too much, get the training done first and see what lead you to. Go steppers go go….

What does it take #2 - help with mirror image???  I can't follow in Body Step after "freestyle stepping" for a zillion yrs.  My club now only teaches BodyStep. I have tried it but get so frustrated and I leave (just easier than standing there looking dumb).

You are such a fool.  You're the one who said all the LM classes were wimpy and that your gym had hardcore underground freestyle classes with 1/2 male participants, and that you got kick butt workouts there.  Or that you did BS classes with weights and super crazy moves.  Now all of a sudden a normal BS class appeals to you (other than new music there is no difference).  Then you said you were quitting the forum here (obviously a lie), you offer proof of nothing you say.  Maybe you can just say you got BS certified and that you keep your certification next to your 12 olympic gold medals.  But someday know that honesty is the best policy, even online.

Aren't you are a ray of sunshine.

BTW that was not called for in someones thread about them becoming a bodystep instructor.

You need to say sorry to the original poster and not come into their thread and not being so cool.

That is all I have to say to you.

    This forum really sucks sometimes.

    Cheers!

Maybe you can just say you got BS certified

Rod is certified in "BS", just not BodyStep.

*I know, I know, and I was trying soooo hard to be good, but this was far too tempting to leave alone*

The forum member "pipera" is not a Les Mills Instructor, though his posts, signature and profile will claim otherwise.

Since he has been economical with the truth on his profile, read the real facts here.

    Re: What does it take?

you know what...? i think you'd be perfect - the skills can be taught. you can be taught how to run an awesome class -but having the passion... well that CAN'T be taught, that comes from within, and i think you'd be perfect for a body step instructor, or anything for which you have the passion. because the rest are skills, you'll learn them. you cant teach someone to have passion ;)

    Re: What does it take?

    Perfectly well said, Bexi.

If you have the passion, then getting these skills is easier.

That actually was kinda funny......especially as once again Rod manages to make a thread back to being about him again. Still, I guess if he wants to be able to stick "registered body step instructor" on his cv (or profile) and then post advice which sounds impressive but is actually kinda out of date then go for it.
