    BA on the road

I travel a lot. I was at a Golds Gym working out (compliments of the hotel) and I spoke with a BA instructor. I am interested but will never find myself at one location long enough to be consistent. At present, I have Billy Blanks DVDs that I play on my computer to work out while in hotel rooms. Does any one have any suggestions as to how I can apply this great technology - web cast / DVDs / log-in workouts?

hi ....im a BodyAttack instructor primarily based in Golds Gym.  Since Golds is a large chain, you should be able to run into a Golds on your travels ...and would highly recommend Attack.  Attack is so intense that you need a break from classes anyway. ...so laying off it for a few days will not be detrimental.  During those times you find yourself in a so-called "forced" layoff from Attack due to no club/class where you are at, you can mix in alternate cardio(step  running etc..) or work on your lifting. This way your workouts will be diverse and thus keep you feeling fresh and not stagnated or bored doing one thing only. That way the next time you encounter your Attack class, you will be jazzed for the action.  Don't give up on body Attack though. ......it's a great workout! Yes I am partial to it since it is my passion as an instructor.  However, use your dilemna of frequent travel and seeming inconsistency in workout to actually be an advantage in that it will provide opportunity for a varied, diverse, and overall awesome workout experience for you....good luck....and happy travels!

Oy! I don't think ya can!  I used to always bring along cross trainers, racing shorts, and a singlet (minimum weight) so I could run around the perimeter of the hotel/motel complex instead of sitting in the bar before dinner.  You can rinse them and hang 'em in the bathroom every night.

Those same things work in a group class like Combat or Attack.  Can you buy a annual membership at your hometown Golds and use it when you travel?  Or a YMCA membership?

I used to buy a one month visitor membership at any nearby club with suitable classes when I was going to be somewhere for more than a week. (hehe Pay for it out of your meal expense tab.)  LOL! I used to "terrorize" a lot of high impact aerobics classes with my wild antics.  Usually the instructor loved it and the participants hated it. ah well!

BTW, Body Attack is high impact aerobics by another name, so any intermediate or advanced class called cardio combo or something like that will probably be very familiar to you.  Also most freestyle step classes will be quite a bit more intense than BodyStep so they will do if no Attack like classes are available.

I hadn't thought of joining Golds Gym as a solution. Does every Golds Gym offer BA? I am a member of 24 Hour Fitness - do they offer BA?

hehe.. you raise an interesting point.  BA isn't a end unto itself, and if you want to get the most out of it, look at it as athletic training rather than an objective.

Try to get in a BA class or two a week so that when you visit a strange club and they only offer "cardio whatever - intermediate to advanced" you can accept the challenge of keeping up in a class you've never seen before.

There are lots of very challenging freestyle step classes around the US.  Attack will get you in shape to do step but you still need to learn all the standard, and not so standard, step moves.  Advanced step will greatly increase your foot speed.
