    Hmm [^o)] Sneakers...

Hey I recently got a pair of asics gels and they were pretty good until about half way into the interval track of the first attack class I used them in.  So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what shoes they wear. Any suggestions or comments are welcome, thanks.Big Smile

    Re: Sneakers...

everyone is different, and therefore requires different shoes. I used to wear New Balance and they were great, but after my knee injury, I found they were too wide and therefore not stable enough to support my rolling out. I have since had Brooks and both pairs I have owned have been brilliant, although a little heavy initially on the feet. Just last week I bought a pair of adidas, that are really light and supportive, but I have yet to wear them in a BA class. Soon now! *g*

    Re: Sneakers...

Look under the thread titled "stress fractures", well over a dozen people had comments about the best shoes to wear for attack. I've been teaching combat for years and never had any problems but since training for attack in Nov. and teaching since Jan., my feet and ankles have been giving me alot of trouble. But I found alot of the comments in that thread helpful. I'm going to go to a running store where they look at your feet while you run on a treadmill and then fit you for the best shoes for your feet. I think you need a shoe with alot of shock absorption/cushioning and alot of ankle support. If I find a good one I'll be sure to post it.

    Re: Sneakers...

Hey, also go to the body combat threads and look under combat footwear, alot of people commented there about the best shoes; combat and attack both have alot of jumping and shuffling so you may get some good info about shoes there as well.

    Re: Sneakers...

It is a tough one this... I am still on the quest for the perfect shoe!!

Regular running shoes are only made for forward motion and with attack you have forward backward as well as lateral movements and I was advised by an Adidas rep that I should buy cross trainers for Attack classes.

I am wearing Nike 360s at the moment and must admit they are very comfortable and I also dont get the burning sensation on the balls of my feet that I have had with previous trainers either( think this is down to friction!!)

Its all trial and error I feel!!!

    Re: Sneakers...

I also teach both Combat and Attack.... but have found that I do need 2 sets of different types of shoes. I am wearing Nike Frees and Nike Shox hi-tops for Combat..... however when I started Attack, it was a totally different story. My trainer told me to try running shoes... and he was sooooright. I have found that any running shoe that fits YOU properly - meaning:

    • toe box allows for a little movement and a proper fit, so toes arent being squeezed anywhere
    • full support & firm fit through the arch to minimize side to side slippage
    • and - a shoe designed for MAXIMUM cushioning

should be a great improvement over a generic cross trainer that you wear for Pump or whatever. This class is tough on the body and worse on the feeties... it is well worth the suggestion above to go to a running store and have a show prescribed for you and the fit you need.

Yes! Nike 360's are awesome.  Expensive, however last longer than most, has an air cushion under the entire foot and has lateral support.   They "take a beating and keep kicking" :)

Mine got a 'puncture' in the first Attack class I went to after I bought them Sad
Still, I bought them cheap on eBay, so I'm not too worried. They still work well, and they're still well-cushioned and supportive (even though the left shoe wheezes every time I step on it ConfusedEmbarrassed).

    Re: Sneakers...

Oh no. You have a flat.  Any chances you could patch it like a tire? :)  I have 3 pair now, because everytime I find a good pair of shoes, the manufacturer always changes it; hence the multiple pairs.  One of the pair also, hisses, everytime I step on it.  I never thought I might have a slow leak. Oh well, at least it isn't my foot hitting the ground.

I hope yours still work for you.

    Re: Sneakers...

Well, not only do I have a flat, the bit surrounding it started to crumble severely during the last Attack class I went to.

You joke about patching it like a tyre, but I did a DIY effort on them this morning using superglue and sticky-back-plastic layers.

    Sigh Sad

I dunno how you're going with these shoes, but I just thought I'd let you know you should wear them more than once. Generally you should wear them around a bit at home first, get your feet used to them, wear them in.

    Re: Sneakers...

My personal favs for BA are:

    1. Adidas a3 (Megaride, Ghostride, Ultraride, Hyperide)
    2. Nike shocks (the ones with the whole sole shoks, not just on the heel)

The Adidas are a little bit better than the nike for shock absorption and much more durable. The nikes are also very good but for €200 a pair I think they should last a little longer - I have two pairs and on one pair one of the heel shocks split right open after about 10 BA classes. And I only ever used them for BA, nothing else...

    Re: Sneakers...

so I've worn my brand spanking new pair of Adidas to several BA classes now, and just AWESOME. Love it when its gone past the 'just broken in' point and you feel like you are floating on air, and can jump higher than ever. They are so light yet so supportive. Well worth the money!

Timbts, are you talking about the Nike Shox that laterally support you as well? I have a pair, but I only use them for BS since they are so light. I don't think they would give me enough support for BA. I've worn them quite a lot now and they are great. Everyone is different *g*
