Stick with it. - things to try,
pull shoulder blades back and together, suck tummy in. You will get lower and lower, and it will hurt like a hammer to the thigh.
(Don't go around calling it ''nonsense'', people get slain on here for stuff like that).

also check the width of your grip shoulder width, arms are straight up when your bar is at the top.
another thing to try is changing the thumb position, if the thumb is same side as fingers it is slightly more comfortable.
