Group fitness delivers 82% of attendances at premium priced facility in tough local market

It’s been three years since we spoke with Leighann Moll, owner of women’s only Momentum Fitness Center (Momentum) in Pennsylvania USA. Now entering its ninth year of business, Momentum has a 2,000 person membership almost at capacity.

82% retention in 15th year of operation

All in Sports (AIP) is a thriving Group Fitness (GF) specialist with 1,200 members based in Alphen aan den Rijn, Holland. It operates in a tough market where competitor clubs offer wider service offerings that just GF at the same or at a lower price per month. Yet as more low-priced clubs have entered the market, AIP has put up its fees and still retention* stands firm at 82% in its 15th year of operation.

 

40% of total attendances and 65% retention just isn’t enough…

Rod Harvey bought Alive Health and Fitness (AHF) in Canberra, Australia in December 2005. Despite growing the membership base from 969 to 1,502, increasing Group Fitness (GF) participation from 27% to 40% of total attendances and enjoying a healthy 65% retention* rate, Rod isn’t satisfied.
