Yamagata is located in north Japan. You can check it out on a map. There are 47 prefectures in Japan. Tokyo is the biggest, the second is Osaka, the third is Fukuoka, the forth is Aichi(Nagoya), the fifth is Miyagi(Sendai). It's next to Sendai. Does it make sense?
