Am participating this winter in the 'Polar Plunge' for Virginia Special Olympics...(Pray for a WARM winter!!!!)

11-15-09

Awesome week/end!....finished up w consecutive spinning and lifting routines...AND managed to squeeze in time at the driving range this afternoon before RPM. (If only I hit the ball as long and straight on the course as I do on the range would quit this engineering gig and turn pro)!

Was 'spinning' to guns'n'roses this afternoon...I call it the "song of death" cuz everytime they play it I think I'm gonna die. The best part is its only intervals and the sprint track that follows is the one that finishes the deal!!!

Its gonna be an incredible week ahead. Looking forward to touching all the bases, from BP and RPM thru bodyflow and 'the bell'. Be strong!

What an incredible week! Back to back RPM/BP/Kettlebell & BP again this morning left me 'taking an occaisional knee" between 'tracks'. My first 'kettlebell' class and whattaride....Regrets to my usual RPM instructor for baling on her class to play boot camp (group circuit training) with the bell but it was worth it. A total body workout that incorporates strength endurance and aerobic conditioning.

10-29-09

Finished back to back RPM-44 and BP-71 releases...Both 'overthetop' & left me 'spent'. Kudos to whomever thinks of these things!

Started the RPM sprint track at around 152 rpm with not a lotta room to go up from there...it was almost 'ovah' by the end of the 3rd increase on the 1st interval! By the time we made it to the 3rd interval I pretty much had run outta gas....next time will have to remember to start that one out a LITTLE bit slower!

My first glimpse at BP-71 and it definately rose to the 'buzz level' that everyone had been talking about. I didn't think a squat track could get any tougher than the BP70 release (which was like runnin' windsprints with weights) but somehow this one seems even tougher; the follow up chest and back routines HUGE and found myself 'taking a knee' between tracks (Boo-YAH)!

The good news....heading OBX friday thru sunday for a fall golf weekend.....should be a great time. The heavist thing I'm gonna be lifting is my new callaway driver!

Back from a month of near constant travel to DC, California and Florida with plenty of golf along the way! Great to be back though to friends and a 'normal' routine of spinning and BP. Our instructor pulled an older release (BP58?) from the shelf today and really kicked some butt!....the combination of squats, chest and back left little in reserve for 'pump it' on the bicep track. Ran this afternoon for good measure.....

Our gym releases BP71 this wednesday nite....looking forward to the next challenge!

10-10-09

ACHING from BP-70 and looking forward to tne next release (Puleeeze)! The squat track is like running 'Zee' drills with weights on your back! (and yeh that's ZEE for y'all in Canada and yonder parts!).

10-05-09

BOO-YAH.....AWESOME weekend and a rush tonite in 'spin' class. Wrote 'help please' in the 'fog' on the mirrored walls of our spinning room before crawling out the door! Loving life out loud.

What an incredible weekend...rpm/bp/hike/walk and managed to squeeze in a round of golf! Catching up on schtuff before heading to California. It should be AWESOME. Saw this on another page and thought it worth repeating (albeit slightly edited to make shorter)! How do you know when you are addicted to Body Pump?

Every other song you hear in the grocery store makes you look around for a bar
The people in the car next to you at a stop light wonder why you are doing bicep curls
You pick up a box with a three and one rhythm
You keep your elbows in when scratching your nose
You stand in line with your knees slightly bent
You look forward to using the port-a-potties at the state fair
You judge every person you see by what BP could do for them
Your bed is up on 2 risers
You carry all the groceries in from your car in one trip
Your kids are astounded that you know so much about their music
You're in a nightclub, the DJ plays 'Flaunt It' and you automatically start tapping your foot, chest proud, shoulders back, lock your elbows in and curl up that air bar suuuper slow!
You're non-gym-junkie friend gives you 'the look' when you keep saying 'hey this is our chest track!'
You're at the Pink concert listening to Who Knew and instead of swaying and bouncing with the crowd, you suddenly realize you are halfway through a mental tricep track and about to hit the floor for dips
You sit on the toilet, you pull your hips back, push out your chest and check that your knees don't go beyond your toe line
You pass by a construction site and start yelling things like: good work, let's take it home, watch your back when lifting that steel post, or squeeze those glutes on your way up!!!
You get mooned and instead of being offended, you correct their form
You've never been back to the weight room since you started BP
The traditional weight-lifting wisdom of 3 sets of 12 reps simply isn't satisfying enough
You can't lift weights without the music
You think a song sounds better in BP class than it does on the radio

......there's enough truth in there it's a bit scary...

Am reminded of the words of a local instructor that I have come to respect and admire.....BodyPump defines strength in a different way-it's not how much you can deadlift or benchpress 2 or 3 times. Am also recalling words of a (doctor)friend....."this is just a different KIND of pathology"

Somewhere along the way my personal fitness took a back seat to career and family matters. I woke up one day and determined to take back my life and re-wind the clock.

A buddy of mine invited me to the local Gold's gym that nite and stared wide-eyed with disbelief as I walked into a 'body-power' class. Don't ask why or how but he managed to call me a name which questioned my character and dignity all the while he steadfastly refused to participate. He was however good enough to be there an hour later to help me crawl out of the room and uttered those words that only a friend can say at a time like that....."I told you so....."

It seems like a blink of an eye but that was 3 years ago. I now have 12 scheduled workouts each week which allows a diverse training regime each of the 7 days including body pump, rpm, ab attack....and yes....bodyflow (am a recent yoga convert and should have done this YEARS ago!).

The clock is still advancing......but it seems to do so only very slowly.....and its actually fun now to watch the moments tick away.

Hi, Steve! Thanks for the add. I can completely relate to the Pump addiction, as it hit a little too close to home when I read it. :) Keep up the good work; kia kaha!!!
