Les Mills BODYVIVE™ is a full body workout that leaves you feeling thoroughly invigorated, rejuvenated and energized. Using the VIVE™ balls and VIVE™ tubes, participants enjoy a 55-minute group fitness workout which includes cardio exercise, resistance work, core training, mobility and balance.
VIVE™ balls and VIVE™ tubes are used because they enable the body to be worked in different ways and at different levels of intensity. Balls and bands were also chosen for their huge popularity among current gym members worldwide.
• The purple VIVE™ ball weighs about 150 grams and is 23cm in diameter when inflated. It’s made of thermoplastic rubber (TRP ) with a roughened texture for good grip. The VIVE™ ball is used on and off throughout the class – sometimes for resistance and sometimes for assistance – and for helping participants connect to the workout and raise their movement awareness.
• The VIVE™ tubes are made from thermoplastic rubber and are 124cm in length (unstretched) with a sweat-resistant plastic handle at each end. The VIVE™ tubes are available in three different resistance values, 9mm, 12.5mm and 13.5mm,
Resistance comparisons at a 90cm stretch are as follows:
4kg for the light 9mm band
7kg for the medium 12.5mm band
10.2kg for the heavy 13.5mm band
LES MILLS™ technical advisers say VIVE™ balls and VIVE™ tubes allow more muscles to be targeted more effectively than with anti-gravity options like hand-weights alone. This is especially true with the muscles in the upper back which are important for maintaining good posture and avoiding rounded shoulders. Unlike weights, the VIVE™ tube also allows users to work the so-called transverse plane stabiliser muscles used in rotating the body at the hips, shoulders and trunk – extremely important in injury prevention, according to recent research. Exercisers who might struggle to expand the VIVE™ tube to full stretch should use the lighter resistance version and need not expand it fully.
