Les Mills is changing the way the world thinks about fitness.
Our eight group fitness-to-music classes are delivering the results people want and changing lives from Sydney to Stockholm, from Washington to Wellington and from Rio to Reykjavik.
Great music and passionate instructors inspire exhilarating workouts that more and more club members are making part of their regular fitness routine.
Our classes are currently running in more than 12,000 clubs in more than 70 independent countries, with an estimated five million participants a week.
Les Mills has stamped a huge ‘footprint’ on the industry and gained recognition in IHRSA’s Club Business International magazine for “doing for group exercise what McDonald’s did for hamburgers”.
Les Mills has produced much more than an innovative and effective form of exercise - we have created a global fitness phenomenon.
The LES MILLS™ Group Fitness System is made up of four elements:
1. Pre-choreographed programs
Les Mills’ Program Directors create a new class (music and choreography) for each of our eight programs every three months.
The directors draw on the latest trends in music and their instinctive understanding of what constitutes a great workout. They are also guided by the latest developments in exercise science and Les Mills’ ongoing research and development program.
When the class is perfected it is filmed for DVD and dispatched with choreography notes, education sessions and licensed music CDs to the 60,000 certified LES MILLS™ instructors around the world.
2. World’s leading instructor training system
Les Mills' instructors must have the minimum national fitness certification available in their countries and usually have some fitness training experience. They are often recruited from people such as weight trainers, personal trainers or fitness Instructors.
Instructors attend modules where they receive training in the five key elements of choreography, technique, coaching, connection and creating fitness magic.
Once an instructor has completed the module training and been cleared to instruct, they can start teaching in a licensed facility. To become certified, a video tape of a complete class needs to be submitted for assessment within 12 weeks of teaching the first class.
Once certified, instructors receive the quarterly program resources, together with ongoing support and training.
Outstanding instructors with leadership skills and an aptitude for helping others to reach their potential may wish to apply to become national trainers.
3. Group Fitness Management System
The LES MILLS™ Group Fitness Management (GFM) system provides club owners and managers with a blueprint for achieving higher profitability through group fitness.
The GFM system was developed at Les Mills World of Fitness in Auckland as a means of capturing the business benefits of the LES MILLS™ programs and is now offered to clubs around the world through seminars and workshops.
The GFM system covers all aspects of group fitness studio layout and management and staffing (including instructor training and selection).
GFM also defines optimum promotional support for the LES MILLS™ programs through external marketing and new program launches.
4. Club Group Fitness Marketing Program
Les Mills’ marketing program is anchored in an extensive program of consumer research driving all product communications including trade and consumer advertising, on-line marketing resources and public relations.
High quality imagery is produced for targeted advertising campaigns promoting programs individually and also to support the quarterly re-launch of classes with new music and choreography.
Fully developed marketing materials are supplied to Agents and are also accessible to licensed fitness clubs through Les Mills’ online eClub.
