Kia Ora to all!

Just wanted to post a quick update on the incredible LIVESTRONG Challenge yesterday. Ninety miles in the rolling hills of rural Texas...the very same hills where Lance Armstrong began his quest for one of the greatest achievements in the history of sporting competition. Some were experienced road warriors--others "novice" road riders. We had team mates riding $$$ road bikes, low-budget "classics" (shifters on the down-tubes!) an IRON MAN effort on a mountain bike (with kickstand!) and even a 2 speed tandem. Temperature in the high 80's, some truly challenging terrain (deceptively so) and rough pavement set the scene...

RPM and Les Mills REPRESENTED on Sunday the 26th of October in Austin, Texas. We met as individuals--some came as friends, others as strangers but we all bonded as a TEAM in support of a great foundation with a critically important mission. What is their mission?

"The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) inspires and empowers people affected by cancer. We help people with cancer focus on living; we believe that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything." If it sounds like a mission statement that fits hand in glove with RPM and the Les Mills mission--you're right!

We rode with a mission in mind...with a purpose and focus. We brought our "A" game and were definitely the MOST colorful team on the circuit. Our team spirit, great attitude and energy was the talk of the town. The team jersey is something to behold...and yes, I'll say it...you MISSED OUT if you didn't get in on the action. This was an event in which friends were made, friendships renewed and bonds were made that will last a lifetime. It really was that powerful.

RPM'ers...We came very close to achieving our fund-raising goals--and they were set high. Rumor has it...We will have more LIVESTRONG challenge opportunities in 2009 and I want to encourage all of you as individuals and as a community to support the effort. As cycling enthusiats and passionate people...we should be off the charts! This is an opportunity to put RPM on the map as never before.

Let me say it again...in perhaps another way. Take a chance...and get involved! Enlist in the LIVESTRONG army. It's a fight worth fighting!

This movement--the LIVESTRONG Challenge--is growing nationally and will soon be a part of the GLOBAL cancer initiative. The LIVESTRONG army is leading the charge--this is cutting edge stuff!

RPM'ers! Expect to see and hear more about these opportunities (hint!)...

Finally...a HUGE, GIGANTIC MEGA-SHOUT out to Leighann Novotney and her tireless, relentless efforts to make this event happen. She was the magnet, the dynamo and the spark for the entire event...and created the greatest team jersey that you can imagine. Without her vision and tenacity this never would have happened. She's passionate about her mission and it's catching! Leighann...you are all that!

In closing, on a somber note, one of our team members was seriously injured during the ride on Sunday. Her injuries resulted from a freak off road accident. She was in a local hospital intensive care unit as of last night. Out of respect for her privacy I'll keep it at that. In any event--PLEASE keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Ride and LIVESTRONG.

Hello - Hello - Hello to you....
Thank you for EVERYTHING! Words can't describe how I feel about the weekend!

It was such a pleasure having you on board. I have to say, the team would not have been the same without you. I think about it all - the "no room" scare, the bike building party, the team meeting, the appreciation dinner, coffee and shopping at Mellow Johnny's, the start line, the first 10 miles, and most importantly, I recall the conversation you and I had in the lobby after the ride/accident.....
Thank you Jim for your support, your kind words and your encouragement! I can not express enough gratitude ....

Both my wife and I are looking forward to Austin, it should be a great ride and a good time! My wife and I decided to mix it up a bit and are doing it on a Co-Motion tandem bike.
