I began Body Pump in the before times, when we had to carve our shoes out of wood. When our weights were little more than large rocks tied to sticks. We didn't have a sound system because electricity hadn't been discovered. So, we just trudged around in a circle muttering Gregorian Chants as we lifted our sticks with the rocks attached...

Yes! Those were the days...

Of course, in time our muscles became huge and soon we were unable to move when the neighboring tribe would invade. We could just do squats and lunges while watching them carry off all our belongings. We realized we needed to move. And just in time along came Body Step!!! The early routines required large stones as plastic had not yet been invented. An example of an early Body Step arena can be found in England. They foolishly call it "Stonehenge" and believe it to be a celestial calendar. Ha, Ha, Ha.... So, Body Step then gave us cardio to tame the giant overdeveloped muscles we had due to Bodypump. And life again was good....

Of course that didn't stop our neighbors from hauling away everything we owned. It was time to fight! It was time for combat! Body Combat soon arrived to save us from our our plight. But much to our surprise our neighbors just kept stealing, because in Combat we really never hit anything... Hmmm... Violence is not our way.

So, while they were happy stealing we began to meditate on what this all meant. Body flow soon followed. We LOVED the nap at the end and wished all the classes could incorporate naptime. And maybe some warm cookies and milk... Hmmm...

But Naptime has to end sometime, and we eventually woke up and rode bikes. Beautiful, shiney bikes that really never went anywhere. But we pretended they did and they were indoors where it was dry and warm. Our first bikes were disasters as we hadn't invented the wheel. There were alot of knee injuries at first on account of the large square rocks we used for wheels, but eventually it all worked out.

You try to tell this to these young folks and they just roll their eyes. They can't imagine life before Nike, Addidas, and UnderAmour....

Kids... :)

Hi Jim, loved the story. I remember those days. Still have the scars from those original RPM wheels. The stonehedge steps were real steps not like the wimpy things we use now....

Could I get your permission to send this out to our instructors, to give them a smile, with proper credit of course.

Thanks.

I just wanted to say good luck this weekend. It will probably seem like a piece of cake compared to the STP. I'm looking forward to teaching with you :)
