Where do you teach LES MILLS™ classes?
Gold’s Gym, 24 Hour Fitness, and Fitness Evolution.
Tell us a little bit about your background. What led you into the fitness industry?
I started on my LES MILLS fitness regimen when I began to tip the scales at 200 pounds. I found myself getting out of breath when doing normal everyday activities (walking upstairs, playing with my niece and nephew, getting dressed, etc.). So I decided to seek a healthier way of life. I began begging friends and family to workout with me but that was short lived because they usually weren’t as interested as I was. That’s when I told myself I couldn’t rely on friends and family to get me out of a mess I had gotten myself into and I had to be the one to fix it. I then decided to use the gym membership I had been paying for for over a year and never used. I started to hit the gym and there I discovered a new class called BODYJAM™. I immediately fell in love. Before I knew it I had dropped all the weight and added BODYCOMBAT™ and BODYSTEP™ to my routine. Members and instructors began to notice my energy and suggested that I get BODYJAM certified so I did and I’ve been teaching ever since.
What is your favorite program and track?
My favorite program is BODYJAM. OMG…. A favorite track? That’s like asking me to choose only one of my children lol.
What do you love about teaching?
It saved my life and in return I get to be a part of helping others save their own lives.
What has been your biggest accomplishment/most rewarding moment?
Winning at the ONE LIVE event in Chicago and hearing how hundreds of people from around the US were inspired to dance after my performance. The outpouring of love and support I am still receiving is priceless.
Tell us how you pass on your motivation to others?
I have been bringing my enthusiasm and energy to my classes as a LES MILLS instructor for over seven years. Gym members of all skill levels pack my classes, drawn in by my friendly demeanor and my technical precision. Not only can I make even the most complex dance moves seem simple, I have a way of motivating my students to work their hardest and to have a good time while doing it. My sentiments are echoed by my students. They keep coming back because not only do they get a great workout, they get a dance party too.
Do you have a favorite quote or piece of advice?
Work hard, play hard! Life is too short for should’ve, could’ve, would’ve!
What’s your best fitness tip?
It’s a lifestyle change. Some days will be harder than others but the end goal is worth it.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
An ice cold Pepsi.
What features on your favorite playlist?
Hip Hop, R & B, Motown, almost anything from the 80’s and 90’s
