Do you pigeonhole your gym clothes by jamming them in your bottom drawer and only using it for sweat sessions? Follow the advice of Rach Newsham and make the most of comfortable and stylish fitness fashion around the clock.

One minute she’s at her desk listening to music and visualizing choreography, the next she’s pacing out new moves, sitting in a meeting, or racing out the door to teach a class (or two) – and chances are she’ll soon be jetting out to an international Les Mills Live event. Rach Newsham is a Les Mills Program Director and international trainer who is always on the go. With little time for comprehensive outfit planning Rach makes sure her ensemble of fitness clothing will see her through the day. Here’s how she does it.

Never underestimate the value of a good loose tee.

“I love classic muscle tanks. They are comfy to move in and you don’t feel restricted in any way. The soft drape makes them particularly good for dance – you can see all the moves clearly but at the same time the loose material helps enhance the moves and make them seem bigger in range. At the moment I love Reebok’s new foil muscle tank in rebel berry. I tie a knot in the corner of it and it sits nicely over the black slouchy capri.”

You can’t beat the basics

“Let’s be honest, not much beats a crisp white tank! No matter what you team it with, when you put on a white tee it lifts your look straight away and you feel fresh. I particularly love the white Les Mills muscle tank, it’s such a classic print combined with a flattering cut – and most importantly, it’s white!”

Layer, layer, layer…

“Not only am I always travelling to different climates, my home town of Auckland is notorious for changeable weather, so I always layer my outfits and keep a sweater on hand. I love the cosiness of the new Les Mills oversized hoodie. It’s loose fitting so you can layer it with anything, and when I get warm enough, the sleeves are nice and long so I can tie it around my waist.”

Shop for flexibility

“I get a real sense of satisfaction from choosing pieces that can work for lots of different environments and workouts. This means I can seamlessly segue from the street to the studio without having to change outfits.

Of course sometimes there are specialist workout clothes that are so hot you will jump at the chance to change into them. The latest BODYCOMBAT™ shorts are a great example of this. With these shiny boxing shorts you feel like you are wearing almost nothing – they help make the workout fly and you really feel on point. The midnight blue color looks fantastic with a grey singlet.”
